Information
What if the one thing you wanted you could never have? If the one person that was supposed to look after you, care about you, love you, never did? Instead of giving you what you rightfully deserve, they beat you only to show you a lesson.
This is a story about a girl who struggles in an abusive life with her foster mother. And the one person she falls in love with plays with her feelings, only to hurt her more than she already is.
Her life dramatically falls apart when she enrolls in one of the most prestigious public schools in the state. Though, the real trouble starts when she befriends a group of rich, delinquent kids…
Stormy Weather on a Perfect Day
Chapter One
The wind blew softly across the city with no absolute direction. The crisp weather had both chilled and angered the city's occupants, for they were anxious for the upcoming summer. The summer promised so many different things for each person, though some might not be as good as others. Nonetheless of their dreams of the year's summer, winter seemed to continue onto spring, making the spring colder than it should've been, unlike previous years.
People went about their own business throughout the whole city. No one noticed, or cared, about the person they walked beside. They didn't care what kind of life the other might live, what they might be going through, or what they were feeling at that peculiar moment. They couldn't even care if the person next to them was mugged, or worse, died. All that was on their minds was if they made it in time to their next destination.
It was on that one day, not unlike most, that the crowd seemed to just pass right by one particular girl. This girl, who had long brown hair and the purest blue eyes and cream colored skin, stood amongst strangers who cared more about themselves than others. She looked sadly at the passersby with her blue eyes like the ocean. The girl stood in the middle of a somewhat crowded sidewalk. She looked up at the cloudless blue sky. She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before opening them once more. She began to make her way through the street.
The girl had reached a seven story building within a few moments. She looked hastily behind her before walking into the building. Only a few people were scattered about the room, emerged in their own schedules. She took a deep breath then walked over to the elevator. She pressed the button and waited. There was a faint noise behind the elevator doors as the elevator made its way to the first floor. A ding sounded and the doors opened. She walked in and pressed the button going to the seventh floor. There were a few other people inside the elevator, though none paid any attention to her. She let out her breath quietly.

"Look!" a woman shouted, pointing towards the roof of a building. "She's going to jump!"
"Someone call 911!" a man shouted.
A group of people had gathered around on the sidewalk. The girl stood on the ledge of the roof, ready to jump. She looked behind her. A moment passed before she looked back forward. She spread her arms and jumped. She fell like an angel from the sky. Not a single word came from her mouth as she fell.
"Ahhh!" a woman in the group screamed as the girl neared the ground.
The group scattered just before the girl hit the pavement. Sirens from police cars and an ambulance neared the area. The group looked upon the motionless girl with both pity and disgust. A few people left the group, their thoughts back to more important things in their own life.
As soon as the police arrived at the scene, they isolated the scene, so as the area could be cleaned. The ambulance came almost right after the police. Two medics put the girl's body onto the stretcher and covered her body. They put her body into the back of the ambulance and were soon gone.
The police, sometime later, also left the scene. The one glimpse outside of the uncaring people's lifes was over as quick as it had begun.
The wind blew a little more softly as it passed through the city.
Chapter Two
"Perdita, you're going to be late," Mirtha called from the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm coming," Perdita called back. She muttered to herself, "Do things at your own pace, they say. Yeah, right. I'm on a tight schedule 'cause of them. You can do anything you want. Yeah, right. I have to do every little thing as they want me to."
"Perdita!"
"All right, all right!" Perdita shouted back.
Perdita grabbed her backpack, which sat neatly against the wall. She looked into the wall mirror. Her long brown slightly gleamed as the morning light poured into her room from an open window. A girl with beautiful cream skin and the purest blue eyes looked right back at her.
"Perdita!" Mirtha called again, this time with less patience. "Hurry up!"
"Okay!" she called again.
She sighed before opening her bedroom door and walking outside. She hurried downstairs to an angry Mirtha. She roughly grabbed Perdita's arm and nearly dragged her to the door. Perdita was about to open the door before Mirtha stopped her.
"If you screw up your chance at this school, I'll...well, let's just say you don't want to screw up your only chance." Mirtha warned her. "Do you understand me?"
Perdita nodded, knowing well enough that any answer to that question besides a nod would lead to a strike.
"Good," Mirtha said with a fake smile. "Have a great day at your new school."
Mirtha opened the door. Perdita hurried out the door and down the steps. The door slammed shut as soon as she had reached the sidewalk. Perdita stopped and turned around to look at the house. Its blue paint was faded and beginning to peel off. Perdita stuck out her tounge at the house before turning around and making her way down the street.
The chill of the day made one think it was almost winter, though fall had just begun. Perdita blended in with the crowd as everyone went about their own way. The new school year had begun and it seemed as if nothing was different, almost as if school was all year and this was just another regular, boring day. Students either drove their own cars, walked or took another means of transportation, making the streets much more crowded than usual.
As soon as Perdita reached the school, she stopped. She looked at the old, yet beautiful, building for Cherry Rose High School. Cherry Rose High was one of the best public schools a parent could send their child to if private schools were just out of the budget. A lovely garden filled with various types of flowers grew around the building.
Perdita took a deep breath before walking towards the building. A small group of delinquent boys stood beside the school. She quickly glanced at them as she passed by. One of the boys stepped forward.
"Hey, you," the boy called.
Perdita didn't answer but, instead, continued to make her way toward the front doors.
"I said, hey," the boy called again.
His companions began to laugh as Perdita ignored him. The boy turned around and glared at them. The sounds of their laughter followed her like unwanted memories. She fought the urge to look back as she opened the door. She walked inside and went in search of her locker. As soon as she had found it she tried the lock on the locker. Satisfied, she walked down the hallway towards the math hall. She had memorized her schedule and the location of each classroom the night before. Before she reached the math hall, a hand touched her shoulder. She stopped walking and turned around.
"What do you want?" Perdita asked, exasperated.
"I just want to talk to you," the boy from before told her.
"I have nothing to say to you," she told him.
She turned around and began to walk down the hall. The boy walked beside her. She looked at him uncomfortably, though said nothing more to the stranger. The bell rang throughout the whole building indicating the start of school. The boy continued to follow her even when she had reached room 304, Mrs. Medson's classroom.
A very bored looking woman sat behind the desk, which stood in the front of the room. She glanced up at the two students as they had entered and sighed.
"My name is Mrs. Medson," the woman told them in a voice that matched her appearance. "You may choose your own seats."
Mrs. Medson sighed again before looking at the clock that hung above the doorway. Before Perdita could react, the boy took her by the arm and led her down the row of desks. He stopped at the very back row and sat down. Perdita looked down at him as he pointed to the desk next to his. She walked back down the row and choose a desk in the front row.
"Hey, come sit here," the boy said.
Perdita ignored him, waiting the next bell's ring.
"Hey, I said come sit back there with me," the boy spoke into her ear.
Perdita nearly jumped out of her seat. She glared at the boy as he stood smiling at her. She looked away without uttering a single word.
"Come on," the boy said. "Come sit by me."
"No," she simply answered.
"Fine," he said hotly before walking back to his own seat.
Perdita looked around in her seat so she could look at him. He was busy looking through a text book. She sighed before turning back around. The bell rang, indicating the beginning of first period. Students began to rush into the room, hurrying to their own desks. Mrs. Medson looked around the room with a tired expression before standing up from her seat. She walked to the middle of the room.
"I'll call attendance now," Mrs. Medson began. "So, please say here when I call your name, or whatever."
She sighed then began to call names, one-by-one. Once the attendance was finished, she set the attendance book back onto her desk. She turned to the board and began to write down a few formulas. Once finished, she turned back around to face the students.
"We will first begin by practicing a few formulas..."
Perdita started to take a few notes as the lesson began, but as it drew on, she stopped out of mere boredom. She looked down at her paper and began to doodle. She drew a somewhat decent drawing of a prince and princess.
A note was dropped onto her desk from over her shoulder. She paused in the middle of her sketch to look down at the neatly folded paper on top of her desk. She glanced up at Mrs. Medson before picking up the note. She flipped it over in search for a name, though it bore none. She looked behind her at the boy, but he wasn't paying any attention to her. She turned back to the note in her hands. She opened the note and began to read,
'Wait for me after class.'
Perdita looked down at the piece of paper angrily. She refolded the note and put it in her book. She tried to focus on her sketch, though the thought of the boy kept entering her mind. She sighed and pulled the note out of her book. She opened it up and wrote below his writing,
'Okay'
She folded the note and looked up at Mrs. Medson once more. She turned around and handed the note to the girl sitting behind her to give the note back to the boy. She nodded and the note was passed back. Perdita turned back around before the boy had gotten his note back.
The bell rang, indicating the end of first period. Perdita began to put her things back into her backpack. Once she had finished she stood up. She hesitated as the rest of the class left the room. The boy waited at the door. Perdita took a deep breath before walking to the door.
"Hey," the boy said as she walked past him. "What's your next class?"
"What do you want?" Perdita asked as they walked down the hallway.
"Don't get too impatient," the boy said with a smirk. "I just asked a question. So, what's the harm in that?"
"History," she told him quietly.
"What?"
"History," she said, a bit louder this time. "I have history next."
"Oh, I see," he said. "So, what are you're plans for lunch today?"
"School just started, what makes you think I have any plans?"
"Good," the boy said. "Then you can come with me."
"What makes you think that I want to come with you?" Perdita asked, annoyed. "I never said anything like that."
"So, what's—"
"I've got to get to class now," Perdita interrupted. "I don't want to be late on the first day of school."
Perdita hurried away from the boy. She made her way to the history hall. A hand grabbed her wrist. She turned to see the boy holding onto her. He pulled her close to him. Before she could react, he kissed her. He smiled at her then turned around to go his own way. Perdita looked at him in shock, unable to move. She touched her lips. The bell rang throughout the hallway. She turned and ran to her history class.
******
Perdita sat alone at a table in the cafeteria with her lunch before her. She sighed as she realized how fast the morning had gone by. Before she could take a bite of her food someone hugged her from behind.
"Hello again," a familiar voice spoke from behind her.
"Get away from me," Perdita told him.
The boy laughed as he sat down beside her. He began to eat her fries.
"Why are you eating my food?" Perdita asked as nicely as she could without yelling at him.
"I'm hungry," he told her.
"I don't care," she said, pulling her tray away from him. "Why don't you get your own food?"
"I don't have any money," he said honestly. "So, if you don't mind, I'm not done."
The boy took the tray from her hands and continued to eat her fries. She sighed.
"You can have it, if you want," she said.
"Thanks," he said.
They sat in silence as he ate. Perdita looked around the cafeteria nervously. She took a deep breath.
"What's your name?" the boy asked as he finished.
"Perdita," she said.
"That's nice," he said before pushing away the tray. "My name is Rick."
Perdita began to laugh.
"What?" he demanded. "What's wrong with the name Rick?"
"Nothing," she said, laughter still in her voice. "It's just you don't look like a Rick."
"Oh, and what do I look like?"
"A Stephanie," she said. "I mean, look at your blonde hair and your blue eyes. Not to mention your girlish appearance."
"I don't look like a girl!" Rick said, outraged.
"I know, but it's a lovely thought, isn't it?"
"Yo, Rick!" a boy called out before Rick could say another word.
They turned to see a group of five people walking up to the table. The boy who had called out slapped Rick on the shoulder playfully. He had black hair and green eyes and lightly tanned skin. There was only one girl in the group, though it appeared as if she was a guy herself with how she dressed and hid womanhood so well. She and the boy seemed to be identical twins, though their personalities were clearly opposites.
"Is this the girl from this morning?" the boy said.
"Yeah, this is Perdita," Rick said with a smile. "Lucky me, right?"
"Yeah, if she likes you."
"And believe me, I don't," Perdita added.
The group laughed at her remark.
"Hey, whose side are you on?" Rick said defensively.
"Not yours, apparently," the boy said. He continued before Rick could add anything to the conversation, "By the way, my name is Matt." He made gestures to the group from left to right as he spoke, "This is Larry, Jacob, David, and my twin sister, Kayla."
"Hi," Perdita said to the group.
"Well, we better be going," Matt said. "See you later, you two."
"Bye," Perdita said as they walked away.
"Yeah, good riddance," Rick said.
Perdita watched as the group left the cafeteria. Kayla looked back at them right before they turned the corner. Perdita looked questioningly at the corner before looking back at Rick. Rick seemed to want to say something, but the bell had rung, cutting him off. Perdita stood up from the table.
"Well, I have to be going now," she told him.
"Want to skip?" he asked just as she was about to leave.
"What?"
"I know you heard me."
"But I hardly know you," she said. "And my mom will probably kill me if I skip school."
"She won't know," he promised.
"I've never skipped school before."
"Try everything at least once," he told her. "Come on, it'll be fun, I promise."
Perdita looked at Rick unsurely. She looked over at the hallway which led to her locker and then back at him. She pushed the thoughts of home to the back of her mind.
"Okay," she said. "I'll come with you."
"Good," he said.
Rick took her by the hand and led her out of the school building. Once they were out, he calmly walked her through the school yard. He didn't let go of her hand as they walked down the sidewalk. Perdita looked at him in question as he seemed to walk with a set mind.
"Where are we going?" Perdita finally asked.
"Somewhere," he answered.
"You'll find out soon enough."
Perdita sighed.
They continued to walk down a few more blocks before he stopped before a rundown building. He opened the door and stood aside to let her in first. She looked inside the building then at Rick and then back at the building.
"Don't worry," Rick told her. "I won't hurt you."
Perdita walked in followed by Rick. He shut the door behind him. Rick began to walk across the room towards the stairs. Perdita followed Rick up the stairs. He cautioned her as they walked up the rotten stairs. They reached the top floor and he led her down the hallway. He stopped before the last door and slowly turned the knob. He opened the door and walked in. Perdita walked in and stopped.
The room was filled with sunlight. Flowers grew along the walls. Perdita admired the beauty of the room in the old building. Rick smiled at her as she walked towards him.
"It's beautiful," she told him.
"I know."
"I haven't seen anything like this in my whole life," she said. "And I wouldn't have expected such a thing in a city like this."
"Me, either," he admitted. "So, when I found this place, I called it a 'sanctuary' and claimed it as my own."
"I can see why you'd want to call it a sanctuary," Perdita said. "If a beautiful thing can live in such a chaotic place then—" |
