Aftershock - Chapter 10

by: Sonia

Carly was picking up after Michael, who she had just put down for a nap. She threw the last of his toys into his playpen. There was a knock at the door and Carly threw his last toy back into the playpen. She opened the door and Robin barged in. Carly rolled her eyes and closed the door, "Robin, so nice to see you." Carly pretended to be happy to see her.

Robin knew she was being sarcastic. "Yeah, whatever."

"Robin, what could I possibly do for you?" Carly asked.

"I just want you to know that when Jason gets back he's mine." Robin proclaimed, "What happened between you two on that stupid island doesn't matter. He loves me. He'd never pick you over me."

They stood inches apart, both just as angry as the other. They stared each other down; both had a face of disgust. Neither one was going to give up on Jason. He was to important to both of them.

Carly licked her lips and grinned, "Really? Then why is he gone, Robin? I mean what could he possibly be figuring out? If he isn't interested in me, if you are so sure he doesn't want me! Why are you here?" Carly approached Robin, "Because you know that if he loved you he would have told me. He wouldn't be making a choice. You're pathetic if you think I'm buying this act."

"It's not an act. I know he wants me. He's trying to figure out a way to tell you he doesn't want you." Robin was so confident. She was so sure of herself. She looked over at Michael. "The only reason you're here is because of Michael. Poor little guy doesn't know he's your meal ticket."

Carly's emotions boiled inside of her. "Robin, you are crossing a line." Carly crossed her arms. "You know, Robin, all these angry and hostile emotions are coming from that part of you that so wants to give Jason what he needs but know only I can. Admit it, you're just jealous."

Robin laughed, "Carly, I'll be jealous of you the day hell freezes over." Robin snapped and stormed out.

Carly yelled after her, "I'll expect a change in the weather!!!"

Just as Robin left, Bobbie walked in, seeing Robin's angered face. "What was that all about?"

"Nothing, Robin was just shining a little bit of her sunshine my way." Carly put her hands up, demonstrating a strangling motion. "God!" Carly was so frusrated. "That woman gets on my last nerve."

"Carly, stop thinking about it. Let's move on to happier subjects," Bobbie encouraged.

"Such as? What, my horrible life or the fact that I love a man who may never be coming back?" Carly suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach.

Bobbie put her purse on the table and walked over to a bent over Carly. "For one, your baby." Bobbie sat Carly on the couch. "You have to try and be extra careful, which means not the usual bickering."

Carly shook her head, "Yeah. Yeah."

"Carly, I'm serious. If you don't take care of yourself, you're going to lose your baby," Bobbie warned Carly.

"Ok, I'll try to take better care of myself," Carly whined, but then said seriously, "I promise."

"Thank you. Now I was thinking, where are you going to put the baby?" Bobbie asked.

"I don't know. I can't make any real decisions until Jason gets back." Carly ran a hand through her hair. "What am I going to do? This is such a horrible situation." Carly stopped when the phone rang. "Hello?"

"Carly?" The voice called out shakily.

     "A.J.? What's wrong?"

     "Um..can you meet with me?"

     "Sure, where are you?"

"At the docks. Can you please hurry? I need your help." A.J. sounded desperate.

"I'll be there as quick as I can." Carly hung up the phone and turned to a concerned Bobbie, "Can you watch Michael? A.J. might be in trouble."

Bobbie nodded and Carly was off.
