October 1986 Day-By-Day Summary

October 1

Margo keeps tabs on what's happening at the prison and continues to encourage Tom to run for DA. Nancy, who returns from London specifically to support Tom's campaign, is the one who finally convinces him to go for it when she mentions how proud his grandfather would be. Later, at home in bed, Tom and Margo wonder about Lisa's strange outburst earlier that day. While looking through a catalog of movies, Margo realizes that the product codes are identical to the ones found in Channing's briefcase.

October 2

Margo calls Hal with the news, while he fills her in on the latest about the lipstick. They are both distracted, however, as their respective partners start nuzzling their necks and the call quickly ends. Margo fears that with the new evidence she will have to arrest Iva. Kim, who is Tom's campaign manager, calls first thing the next morning and is eager to get to work. When Margo hears nothing about a bust at the prison last night, she begins to fear that Craig was set up. The numbers from Channings briefcase correspond to movies released by an adult film distributor from Los Angeles. Margo is worried that the films will incriminate Iva. The prisoners who set Craig up ambush him in the gym bathroom. Margo collapses on the floor of Bob and Kim's den in excrutiating pain.

October 3

Tom, Bob, and Lisa rush Margo to the hospital where Dr. Samuels wants to keep an eye on her for 48 hours. She and the baby are soon deemed out of danger and Margo's only concern is that she will miss the end of the Channing case. (Margo is not on.)

She and Tom find moments for romance between a call from Brian and Shannon and Tom's efforts to write his speech for the League of Women Voters. Margo worries about Hal. She comments on how you can be so happy, everything can be great, and then whammo, it is all taken away.

October 15

Tom continues to work on his speech. In particular, he vows to put an end to the Falcon ring and to make that effort the centerpiece of his campaign. Margo eventually distracts him and they begin to make love. The next day, both The Argus and The City Times endorse Tom for DA. Earl warns Tom about going after the Falcon while Margo is so vulnerable, but Tom says that he and Margo both feel that if the Falcon isn't stopped now he will only get stronger. Meanwhile, Raspy calls his boss and they agree that Tom is now their biggest problem. Margo visits Iva in the hospital.

Tom and Margo are worried about Lisa who's been missing since last night. She spent the night at Duncan's castle and tells the police--including an on maternity leave Margo--about the secret passages under the castle and the man in monk's robes who is lurking about. Margo hangs around the station to talk to Hal. They are following her suggestion to release Craig's former cellmate Jester on parole and tail him to the Falcon. Margo asks to be filled in on what happens, but Hal says she is on maternity leave. She sticks her tongue out at him. Later, she and Tom join the family for Chris's christening.

October 23

The Hughes hold a post-christening party at Bob and Kim's. Margo can't completely stay out of the cop talk as she follows up on where things stand with Jester.

October 24

Margo has trouble remembering that she is on maternity leave as she confers with Hal and Roy before they head out on a stakeout. Tom jokingly tells Margo to write it on the blackboard 500 times. Tom gives Margo a gift and pomises one for each day she is on maternity leave. The State Crime Commissioner calls Tom and invites him to a special meeting on organized crime at the capitol. Tom and Margo snuggle in bed, but their passion is interrupted by a call from Raspy. He threatens Tom if he attends the organized crime meeting.

The note reads "withdraw from the race or you will lose what you hold most dear. Falcon" She asks both Lucinda and Brian to make it clear that Tom will not back down despite the threats.

October 30

Margo tells Hal about the latest threat. He is concerned by her lack of concern, but she insists that she received lots of threats from the Falcon gang in the past and none were acted on. Roy arrives with news of a body found in the bay that might be Raspys. Duncan and another witness ID the body as Raspy and Margo thinks it might indicate that the Falcon is running scared. Later, she and Tom give an interview for the radio. The family listens to it during the party for Emily's 20th birthday.

October 31

Tom and Margo were not on, but arriving in England, Frannie catches a glimpse of a mysterious stranger who looks like her.
