November 1986 Day-By-Day Summary

November 3

Tom and Margo attend Shannon's Halloween party at the castle. The next morning, Margo finds a half-dressed Tom hanging a mobile for the baby in the closet they are converting into a nursery. They talk about the baby and the election that day. Margo then heads to the station where Hal tells her about the skeleton found in the moat of Duncan's castle. It belongs to Lucky Dolan, a cohort of the Falcon. Meanwhile, Tom meets Joe Bailey at the meeting at the capitol and learns that he is there by special request of the man who will speak at the meeting, an Interpol agent known only as Agent M. As the meeting starts, Tom is surprised to discover that Agent M is none other than his mother's beau, Earl Mitchell.

November 4

The cops (and Margo) continue to use Jester (now with his permission) to try to locate the Falcon. Meanwhile, Tom learns a lot about the case from Earl who's been on the trail of the Falcon for several years. When Hal tells Craig to get Margo out of the station since she is on maternity leave, she admits to her brother that she in light of all the threats, she feels safer at the station than at home. Craig asks her if she really thinks they will stop after the election and she has to admit that she doesn't. Later, the family gathers in Bob and Kim's den to watch the election returns. Tom wins and he and Margo share a celebratory kiss.

November 5

Roy tells Margo that Hal's headed to Edinburgh to check on Duncan's businesses as they now suspect he may be the Falcon. Out of force of habit, he hands her the printout on Duncan's past. She encourages Roy to go out to the castle and follow up on Dolan's death. After he leaves, she heads out after him.

November 7

On a dark, rainy night, Margo warns amateur sleuth Lisa to stay away from the castle, but is unable to stop Barbara from heading out there. Tom convinces Earl to let him warn Margo that there are explosives beneath the castle. Realizing that Barbara could be in danger, she grabs Brian and they head out to the island in his boat. Along the way they discuss the irony of rescuing Barbara after everything she's put them both through. They arrive just after Hensley Taggert is shot after trying to rape Barbara. Brian runs to check on Beatrice while Margo heads into the tunnels (flashlight and gun in hand) after Taggert after hearing the full story. Left alone again, Barbara is approached by a mysterious stranger in a monk's robe. He says "hello Barbara" and we see that it is James Stenbeck.

November 10

At the Mona Lisa, Margo's family and Lisa worry about what happened to her. After following Hensley Taggert into the passages under Duncan's castle, she thinks better of it and tries to find her way back. Along the way, however, she stumbles across the body of Duncan's housekeeper, Rosalind Hatchley, and a bloodied Taggert. He attacks Margo and while wrestling for her gun, falls on top of her. She grabs her stomach in pain. Taggert considers shooting he, but ends up lighting the fuses instead. James arrives and after knocking out Taggert and pulling the fuses out of the wall, he picks up Margo and carries her out of the tunnels. Brian doesn't believe Barbara's story about James until he emerges with Margo and the two men head to the dock. Back at the Mona Lisa, John gets beeped about Margo. Lyla sees him heading out and asks what is wrong. The whole family heads for the hospital. They are waiting there when Margo is brought in on a stretcher. The shock of seeing Margo is topped only by the presence of her rescuer, James.

November 11

Tom and Earl finally arrive at the Mona Lisa only to be intercepted by Seth who tells them about Margo. Despite James role in saving Margo, John is only interested in seeing that he pay for his past crimes. Dr. Samuels informs the gathered family that they are still getting a fetal heartbeat but that it is still too early to tell what is going on. Tom arrives, followed soon after by Kim, Nancy, Steve, Betsy, and Emma, and David Stewart. Tom goes in to see Margo and reassure her that everything will be okay. He tells her that the thing he is proudest of is the fact that she fell in love with and married him and is now carrying his child. She cries out in pain. Roy and Nick arrive to arrest James, but he has disappeared. While Dr. Samuels tends to Margo, Tom remembers happy times while expecting the baby. Lyla and John find him outside the cubicle where she is being tended with tears running down his face. Later, Dr. Samuels and Casey emerge and prepare to tell the family the news about Margo and the baby.

November 12

No information currently available, but Tom was definitely on. Dr. Samuels has to inform Tom that Margo lost the baby.

November 13

Lyla is worried that Tom and Margo aren't letting their feelings about losing the baby out. She is correct as both work hard to protect the other from their feelings of grief and guilt and instead put on a happy face. Margo focuses on January when Tom will be DA and she will be back at work and Hughes and Hughes, crusaders for justice, will be on the job together. After Tom leaves her room, Margo breaks down. Outside the room, Tom collapses in grief in Craig's arms. He opens up to Craig saying that he thought losing the first baby was the hardest thing he'd ever been through, but this is worse after all the months of planning and expecting the baby. Dr. Samuels suggests that he and Margo see Dr. Micheals. While Tom thinks that would be a good idea for Margo, he insists that he is doing just fine. James stops by with his condolences, but Tom lays into him, blaming him for the loss of their first baby. Tom finds it ironic that after all of the evil James has done, he has a son. Margo opens up to Craig. She tries to pretend it is better that she isn't a mother, that she'd be a lousy one anyway, but her laughter quickly turns to tears and she breaks down in his arms. Later, Dr. Samuels tells Tom that Margo may never be able to carry a baby to term.

November 14

Tom tells Margo that there was slight tear of Margo's uterus that will take time to heal and grow strong again. She says that if Margo got pregnant in next two years, it's unlikely she'd be able to carry to term--and that there is no guarantee she will ever be able to. Tom says they couldn't live through another miscarriage. Lisa and Kim arrive from having visited Margo. They report that as Margo drifted off she said that next time they would have triplets and be right back on schedule. Tom heads to Bob and Kim's where he sees babies (Chris and Dani) everywhere he turns. Tom tells Kim the bad news and wonders how he will tell Tom. When she calls, he pretends like nothing is wrong. (Margo is not on.)

November 17

Roy visits Margo to give his condolences. She realizes he is also there to question her about what happened but says she doesn't remember much. She is stunned to learn that James is alive and is the one who saved her. Dr. Samuels remains concerned that Margo is not accepting what happened and shares her concerns with John who agrees. When Tom stops by they talk about the future and avoid talking about the baby. John's not happy when Tom tells him there is nothing he can do about James that they just have to wait for the due process of law to take care of it. James comes to visit Margo.

November 18

John isn't happy about James' visit, but Margo wants to hear what he has to say. James claims to have changed, but after he leaves, Margo admits she doesn't believe a word he said. Lyla invites Margo to stay with her when she is released from the hospital. Margo says she will think about it but is leaning towards going home. When Lyla urges her to talk to Tom about her feelings, Margo says they are dealing with it the best way they know how. Later, while cuddling in bed with Tom, Margo asks him if Dr. Samuels said anything about when she can get pregnant again. Tom says he has something he has to tell her.

November 19

Tom tells Margo that they can't have another baby for a while. She tries to look on the hopeful side, but is clearly hurting. Margo decides she wants to stay at Lyla's when she is released and Tom agrees. After he goes to get her an ice cream sundae (only one cherry now that she has to lose some weight), she cries. Iva drops by for a visit and gets Margo to admit her real feelings. She tells Margo it will get better with time. later, Margo tells Tom she doesn't want the rest of the family to know about Dr. Samuels' prognosis. When John presses Tom again about the situation with James, Tom lashes out. Margo is surprised by the strength of his emotions.

November 21

Tom helps Margo move in with Lyla. Lyla calls Margo on her "games," pretending like nothing happened. Margo says she knows exactly what happened, but asks what she should do, wear black for the next two years. She tells her mother that she and Tom are adults and they will deal with the situation in their own way. Tom and Margo cuddle on the sofa and make plans to start going to the gym when she gets home. Lyla looks on disapprovingly as Tom and Margo kiss as if nothing horrible happened. Margo is curious when Earl drops by to question her about the night at Duncan's castle. He covers by claiming to be working on an article for Lucinda. Roy and Nick then come by with news of Jester's "suicide" and the odd coin found in his room.

November 24

Earl identifies the coin as a Scottish ruckel while Margo wonders questions Jester's suicide, thinks it is abit too neat. Lyla and Tom put an end to the cop talk. Earl confides in Tom that the Falcon has closed up shop but he, like Margo, doesn't believe that Taggert was the Falcon. He suspects either Duncan or James. Margo interrupts and thinks Earl should leave the detective work to the pros. Margo again starts going over the case and Lyla asks Tom to put an end to it. He says this usually works and starts nuzzling her neck. It works. Later, John drops by and worries with Lyla about their daughter. He suggests to Margo that she see Dr. Michaels, but Margo doesn't think she needs a shrink. Bob is the next concerned party to drop by. Just back from Europe, he wonders about Margo's plans to go back to work soon. When he departs, Margo snaps when Lyla once again shows her concern, while on the porch Bob tries to get Tom to face up to what they lost. Tom would rather focus on what he and Margo still have. He finally admits to Bob that he feels responsible for what happened and that he's trying to protect Margo from having to feel his pain as well as her own. He eventually breaks down in Bob's arms. When Bob tells Lisa what happened, she hopes that it will help him be honest with Margo, too. But they realize that Tom and Margo probably chose to stay at Lyla's because all of the comings and goings would mean they would never be alone and never able to talk. Tom and Margo do find some quiet time as they bed down in Lyla's living room, but Lyla is disappointed as she hears them discussing cooking lessons and the fact that they don't want to change anything in their lives. When Margo does ask Tom what he talked about with Bob, he lies and says us and how having each other is the most important thing in the long run anyway.

November 25

Tom and Margo were not on.

November 26

Margo goes to see Dr. Samuels hoping that a second examination will bring better news, but Dr. Samuels only confirms her original prognosis--Margo can't even consider getting pregnant for at least two years and then there are no guarantees she'll be able to carry to term. The Hughes gather at Bob and Kim's for Thanksgiving preparations. Tom and Margo plan to spend the holiday alone at their cottage, but they do stop by to see the family. Lisa and Bob look on sympathetically while Tom holds Chris. Nancy and Kim try to convince Tom and Margo to reconsider and come by tomorrow for Thanksgiving. They seem to be succeeding until Chris's off-screen cry chases them away. Back home at the cottage for the first time since the loss of the baby, Margo flashes back to decorating the nursery. She opens the door and finds that Tom has reconverted it back into a closet already. Tom comes up behind her and says he thinks it was for the best. She nods in agreement but is clearly hurting.
