MAX VON SYDOW AT THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL |
Max von Sydow will attend the Toronto International Film Festival (6-15 September), where he presents The Virgin Spring in the "Dialogues" programme, in tribute to Bergman [read the transcript here]. Von Sydow also appears in two new films at the festival, Emotional Arithmetic (Paolo Barzman, Canada) and Le Scaphandre et le papillon (Julian Schnabel, France).

NEW BERGMAN DVD RELEASES |
On 13 August, Tartan releases Sawdust and Tinsel and The Devil's Eye on DVD for the first time in the UK.
The Seventh Seal 50th Anniversary Digitally Remastered Edition will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on 24 September. Coming soon: The Phantom Carriage, directed by Bergman's great mentor and actor, Victor Sjöström (Wild Strawberries).

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, The Seventh Seal (cert PG) has been re-released in a beautifully restored print, beginning 20 July. Check Tartan Films' official site for more information, including a trailer, images, and wallpapers.

BERGMAN WEEK |
At this year's Bergman Week, Bibi Andersson discusses her work with Bergman while Kenneth Branagh presents his version of The Magic Flute. The festival, held on Fårö Island, runs 26 June-1 July 2007. UNESCO TO PRESERVE BERGMAN ARCHIVES |
On 20 June 2007, it was announced that Bergman's archives have been included in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. The UNESCO programme was set up in 1997 to preserve valuable archive holdings and library collections. The Bergman archives include hand and type-written original manuscripts, drafts, notebooks, production papers, photographs and behind-the-scenes footage from the shooting of his films, and private and professional correspondence. BERGMAN TRIBUTE AT FILCA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL |

ANGELA KOVáCS WINS INGMAR BERGMAN AWARD |
At the Guldbaggegalan Swedish film awards ceremony, actress Angela Kovács was presented the Ingmar Bergman Award for "her great ability to give life to police commanders as well as Lars Norén characters or Henrik Ibsen figures, and not least for her unmistakable joy of acting." (22 January 2007)
