Two weeks after their finest hour, there are rumours of a split as Liam refuses to sing with the group as they record an 'MTV Unplugged' special at London Festival Hall. A public statement says he has a throat infection. Instead, he sits in a box, drinking and smoking and glowering at his brother.

Liam refuses to join an American tour, claiming he is "house-hunting" with new wife Patsy Kensit and he has another sore throat. They carry on, with Noel taking the vocals, and Liam joins them later in the tour.

Oasis play 'Champagne Supernova' at the US MTV Video Music awards where Liam spits and spills beer on the stage.
11 September 1996
On their ninth American tour, Noel returns home early after a fight with Liam. The tour is cancelled and the rest of the band follows him home the next day.
