My intent in making the custom .pk3 files for Q3:A was to give the game a bit of a Quake1 and Doom feel.
This is not a total conversion of all of the Q3:A sounds to those of Quake1 or Doom, but it does
replace many of them. Now playing Q3:A with a Quake1 or Doom theme is easy! My love of id games naturally led me to the same type of project for the other game I enjoy playing, Tribes2. Quake & Doom sounds make Tribes2 even better!


Grab  q1q3.pk3  or q3doom.pk3 and read the enclosed .txt file.

Here is my sound pack for Tribes2, qdt2.zip . It replaces some T2 sounds with those from Quake1 and Doom!

NOTE: It appears that id has changed the way the Q3:A pure system works in v1.17 and higher. The way it works now is that if you have this pak file (or any custom SOUND pak it would seem) installed and you try and join a pure server (sv_pure 1) you will be kicked off the server (dropped to the menu). This is true for most mods too. So now you either have to move q1q3.pk3 and/or q3doom.pk3 to a temp directory OR rename it to something other than .pk3 (like q1q3.pk for example) to play on pure servers. NEW: Now you can rename the paks automatically with the enclosed .bat file!


If you put both q1q3.pk3 and q3doom.pk3 in ...\baseq3 make sure you "disable"
     one of them by renaming it to .pk (for example). This is because if you have both
     pk3 files in ...\baseq3 you will get some mixing of sounds. So, in other words, you should
     only use one of these at a time.

Also note that this whole setup only works with Q3:A V1.14 (beta) or higher. In retail
(v1.11) Q3 choosing "Force Player Model" option resulted in the game using Sarge
model as default. Now (v1.14 beta and higher) when you choose "Force Player Model"
everyone in the game is the player model you choose for yourself in setup/player/model
menu.
