Owen joined the RAAF as an 18 year old and served as a wireless mechanic on the Catalina Flying Boats at Lake Boga in Northern Victoria and also in Papua New Guinea. He attained the rank of Sergeant. Not long after being demobilised he went with his mother and brother Bill to San Remo for a beach picnic and was drowned. Bill was very nearly drowned trying to save him. |
