On 8th, 2004 we had an
opportunity to watch Venus transit. It was the only chance for us, because the
next such transit would not be possible to be seen from our country. That rare
and unbelievable event caused a great interest for the students in our town.
Our school was included in the International project for watching the transit
of Venus organized by ESO.
A group of some students (we were among them) leading
by Mr. Vasil Vasilev made the observation form the yard of our school. For the
purpose we used the Russian telescope refractor 60/83 with filter and
projection. For our sorrow, we couldn’t see the first and second contact of the
transit, because of the cloudy weather. The weather became clear after the
second contact. Then our real work started. After several hours over 300
students, teachers and walkers could see the event, due to us. We controlled
the watching as we set the telescope and managed
to find out the moments of third and fourth contact. We showed our results to
Veselka Radeva, National Node for Bulgaria and to
International observational web-page.
