After the events of Back to the Future: Part II, we see Doc Brown zapped back in time to 1885.

Marty (Michael J. Fox), stuck in 1955, receicves a 70 year old letter from Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) via Western Union. Doc Brown explains that he is living fine in 1885 and that he has hidden the DeLorean in a cave and that his 1955 counterpart will be able to fix it up for him. Doc goes on to say that MArty is NOT to come to 1885 to get him, and that he must go straight back to 1985.

With the DeLorean fixed up and ready to go, Marty decides to go to 1885 anyway, and get the doc. Why? While Marty and the Doc are hunting for the DeLorean, he stumbles over a tombstone that reads: "Doc Brown, 1885, Shot in the back by Buford Tannen, over a matter of $80." It was written only one week after he wrote the letter to Marty.

Personal Comments

In this, the final chapter, Doc falls in love with Clara (Mary Steenburgen), the school teacher. A romance blossoms qucikly. This is something we hadn't seen in the previous two films from Doc. But I like it.

I love the way Marty finally gets back in time. I love trains anyway, and the ending is, well... just really cool!

Plot:
The basic plot is reversed from that of Back to the Future. In the first installment, Doc must figure out a way to power the Flux Capacitor. In Back to the Future: Part III, the Doc must figure out a way to get the DeLorean up to 88 MPH. Thus the use of the train. Ingenious.

Visual Effects:
Same as before. Excellent.

Sound:
The score is well done. Both The Power of Love and Back in Time are briefly heard near the end, and the classic Back to the Future score is well placed.

Character Development:
As we see in this, the finally of the triptych, the Doc falls in love, and things more or less work out for Jennifer and Marty.

Atmosphere:
You have to see the first two Back to the future's to understand this one, but still great in it's own right.

Realism:
The "wild west" more or less looked this way, however the Doc could NEVER build the kind of stuff he had in his work place.
