- Doctor Emmit Brown

Marty McFly, having returned to 1985, has found that some things about his life have changed: His parents are not the drunken looses he once knew, his house is fixed up and not he shack it once was, and Biff is a looser!

BUt no sooner had he returned than Doc Brown returns to 1985 and tells him (and his girl Jennifer) that they must go to the year 2015 to help save their kids!

While in the year 2015, Marty purchases a "sports Almanac" that has the scores of every major sporting even from 1950-2000. However, doc refusest o let MArty kepp the book and throws it away.

Old Biff Tannen finds the book and steals the DeLorean, taking the book back to 1955 which sets off a chain reaction of events that Marty and Doc must reapir!

Back to the Future: Part II's plot is much more complicated than that of Back to the future's. I will attempt to explain the series of events.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

  1. Marty and Doc start out in 1985.

  2. Marty travels back to 1955 as chronicled in the events of Back to the future.

  3. Marty returns to 1985.

  4. Marty, Doc and Jennifer travel 30 years into the future to the year 2015. This is where we meet the future McFly's and where Marty buys the sports almanac, which lands in the hands of Old Biff.

  5. Old Biff goes back to 1955 in order to give the almanac to his younger self.

  6. Old Biff takes the DeLorean back to 2015-B, which is now an altered reality since he gave himself the almanac, although Old Biff thinks it is still normal 2015. Upon returning to 2015-B, Old Biff is promptly erased from exsistance. Doc and Marty don't realize that time has changed either- they think it is still the regular 2015.

  7. Doc and Marty return to 1985-B which they think is the real 1985. In this new time, Biff controls everything since he is stinking rich (he used the almanac to gamble and won heavily).

  8. Marty and Doc Brown take the DeLorean to 1955 where they must retrieve the almanac from Young Biff in order to make things normal again.

Once the almanac is in Marty's posession, he burns it... making right the future. However, the Doc is zapped by lightning, sending him to 1885.

Marty is now trapped in 1955.

  9. Once in 1885, the Doc hides the DeLorean in a cave where it is hidden for 70 years, untill Marty and 1955 Doc Brown fix it up. Marty time-travels to 1885 to get the Doc back, as seen in Back to the Future: Part III.

  10. Marty returns to 1985 safe and sound, with the years all back to normal.

Personal Comments

This is a much more developed plot than Back to the future, and I like it a lot more. Not only is it more interesting, but it is also more complex. We get to see several different time periods, and we even get to see parts of the first film. It was a nifty trick to integrate the two films to show that what you do at one time point will effect another time point and, if you go back in time to a point where you are already back in time, you can really screw things up! Even though it must have been really hard to pull off, it was well worth it.

Back to the Future: Part II not only gives us the future, but more of the past and an alternate present! This film is a master work of good script writing, and it's a shame it wasn't nominated for best screen paly because it deserved it.

Plot:
The plot can't get better. In the future. Back in the past. An alternate future. Wow! It may be a bit hard to follow, but nevertheless it works very well.

Visual Effects:
Again, The visuals of the DeLorean rock! The team at ILM did a exceptional job on the time travel aspects and on the future as well as the hoverboard sequences and Biff's hotel.

Sound:
Most of the music is well done. The film keeps some of the score from the first film, although we lose The Power of Love.

Character Development:

Atmosphere:
You have to see the first one (Back to the future) to understand this one, but still great in it's own ways. And if you have seen the first one, you will probably enjoy Back to the Future: Part II even more!

Realism:
Could this be what the future holds?
