LINKS TO SOME FAVOURITE AUTHORS
At various times in my life I've had different favourite authors. I tend to go on 'streaks' where I read a whole pile of books from one author, then go onto another. The following are/were favourites at one time or another.

Also check out my Canadian Literature for Canlit authors.

GENERAL FICTION and OLD FAVOURITES
Alice Munro
My absolute favourite short-story writer.
James A. Michener
Margaret Mitchell
H. G. Wells
J.R.R. Tolkien
Emily Brontë
Charlotte Brontë
Wayson Choy
George Gissing

SCIENCE FICTION, FANTASY, THE COSMOS
Margaret Atwood
"The Handmaid's Tale" and "Oryx and Crake", need I say more?

Neil Gaiman
Gaiman is a recent discovery for me. As soon as I find a good link, I'll post it here. For some reason, I can't access his 'official' site.

Isaac Asimov
Isaac Asimov and his "Foundation" and "Robot" series was probably what first turned me into a true science fiction fan.

Ray Bradbury
I read "Martian Chronicles" in high school and haven't looked back since.

Greg Bear
Another relatively new sci-fi author for me. I loved his "Forge of God".
William Gibson
Gibson is the father of 'cyberpunk'.

Ursula K. Le Guin
Orson Scott Card

ACTION, MYSTERIES, THRILLERS
Stephen King
Though I've been disappointed be some of his recent books, I'm still a Stephen King fan. "The Shining" and "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" remain a couple of my all-time favourites. His Dark Tower series also ranks high on my list of all-time faves.

Robert Ludlum
I was a fan of his Jason Bourne books before the movie!

Tom Clancy
Notably, the Jack Ryan stories, if you can stand all the technical babble.

James Clavell
Sho Gun is my favourite Clavell.

Michael Crichton (could also be classified under sci-fi)
Sure, he's had a few clunkers over the years, but some standouts are Jurassic Park, Rising Sun, Andromeda Strain, Congo (hey, I liked it), and Prey.

Elizabeth George
Good, entertaining series of who-dunnits set in England. I was convinced she was a British author because of her use of 'Britishisms', but she's American.

... and More to Come.
