I'm not entirely comfortable about an "About Me" page.
But since you found your way here, I'll give it a shot.
I'm a mother of two young adult sons and married for
30+ years. I love variety and welcome change, especially
if it means learning new things. I believe, trite as
it sounds, that age is largely a state of mind. I come
from a family of "young" adults who have lived well
into their 80's and 90's.
Over the years, I've done a lot of different things.
As a student, I worked in a cannery, was a waitress,
cook's helper, dishwasher, nurse's aide, and hospital
unit clerk. In highschool, I volunteered at a local
hospital as a "candystriper" and worked in the school
library. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
and have worked in both community health and home care.
When my sons were born, I became a stay-at-home mom
and worked part-time for my husband's business out of
my home. I'm still working for him, and find myself
going into the office more now, although I prefer to
work at home. I almost got back to nursing - took a
refresher course, etc, but found that I didn't like
what was going on politically and professionally and
just didn't have the passion to go back - but that's
another story! I've done the school volunteer thing,
the soccer and hockey mom thing, and was a certified
fitness instructor. Whenever I had the chance, I took
continuing-ed courses in whatever seemed interesting
at the time. Along the way, I picked up a few computer
skills. I have numerous interests; reading being only
one. I occasionally contribute articles and reviews
to other online sites, but mainly, my writing is for
this site and for the sake of keeping my grey cells
active. My sons also keep me on my toes with great philosophical
discussions about the meaning of life and up to date
on current music.
I've been working on this website since June 2000 and
it remains a work-in-progress. The more I look around
at other sites, the more I realize how much there is
to learn! There are some truly amazing sites out there.
I hope you enjoy your time here and come back often.
