The shamrock is the symbol of Ireland because it was selected by
St. Patrick in the fifth century to illustrate the doctrine of
the Holy Trinity to King Oengus of Cashel. According to the elder
Pliny, no serpent will touch this plant. This pin is made of wheat straw, and was originally designed by Ann Havlik.
