It was difficult to pin down Dorothy's parents. The Church of Latter Day Saints lists a christening of a Dorothy Marshall to a Francis and Jane Marshall (formerly Sym). The christening took place on 21 April 1776 in Ulgham, Northumberland. Originally I decided not to base further reasearch on this person as it was difficult to prove that the link was correct. However, the Dorothy Marshall that went on to marry my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather, Edward Stephenson, named her first son Francis (same as this Dorothy's father). They named their first daughter Jane (same as this Dorothy's mother). Their second son was named Edward (same as the child's father). Their fourth child was named Henry (same as Dorothy's maternal grandfather - Jane Sym's father). I believe this evidence to be overwhelming in support of this being the correct Dorothy Marshall. On 23 January 1799 she married Edward Stephenson. They proceeeded to have five children, all christened in the Parish of All Saints, Newcastle; Francis (c.1801), Jane (c.1804), Edward (c.1806), Henry (c.1809) and George (c.1811). I don't know when Dorothy died. |
