| PREAMBLE: Hmm.. I probaly should have done this part before... But anyways, for those of you who are new to the series Neon Genesis Evangelion, here's the deal. The year is 2015, and due to a meteor which crashed into Antarctica in 2000, sea levels have risen and about half the human population remains. Depressing huh? Now, in the current year, just as humanity is starting to recover from its losses, earth suddenly becomes victim to attacks from beings known as 'angels'. Now here's the part which gets religiony: are these angels really messengers from God sent to punish us for our advances in bioengineering?; or are they something completely different? Well, whatever the cause, and whatever they are, humanity does not take well to being attacked (surprise, surprise) and creates the Evangelions, (half organic, half mechanic 'mobile suits') as a way defense. Now here's the problem; it turns out that only children born one year after the Second Impact (what the meteor in 2000 was termed) are able to syncronise with the Evas, and hence pilot them. And enter now our fourteen year old pilots: Shinji, our main character who I'll laughingly call the "hero" (if you've seen the series, you'll understand ^.^); Rei, the seemingly expressionless, emotionless girl, whose purpose in life is to pilot (literally); and of course, Asuka!! Now, please bear in mind that the above info is only good for the beginning of the series, and will make some drastic changes as truths are revealed (don't I sound corny). |
| ASUKA v.s. REI: Hehehe.. Now from what I've observed, there's this whole thing going on between Eva fans as to who's the better character. They're both great characters and extremely well developed; but obviously, I like Asuka better, seeing as I did a whole site on her. And that's 'cause Asuka your bitch character!, the comic relief! (And besides, her design is totally KAWAII!) Come on, without her (and help from Misato), Evangelion would be even MORE depressing than it already is~! But don't get me wrong here, I like Rei too; she's got the most interesting heritage/background of any character in NGE. I just like Asuka better. :) Okay, okay, so I'll admit that I'm a bit biased towards Asuka -I've got a thing for comedic bitch characters of all kind. ^.^ SPOILERS: WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED???: Was anyone else confused about what happened during End of Evangelion?? Just concerning Asuka (though there was a LOT of stuff that just went right over my head), she's still comatose, but wakes up in her Eva after having her big epiphany moment, and beats the crap outta those Navy troops. Then the Eva series swoops in and she's forced to beat the crap out of them too (I like this part ^.^). Okay, but she runs out of power, and the Evas all reactivate and start beating HER up with their Lances (which I'm wondering why they didn't use before, but anyways..). So they're all ripping her up and devouring her like vultures (this is a particularly gruesome scene), and I think it's pretty safe to say that she's dead. :( I got all that -what I DON'T get is how she's all of a sudden patched up and ALIVE at the end of the movie?? Anybody know? Feel free to tell me. ^.^ Oh well, I suppose that this is one of those weird things that happen in movies that don't have answers. :) REI II vs REI III: So this isn't about Asuka, but Rei's interesting too (all 3 of them), so too bad. :) I hafta say that I like Rei the III alot better the II. (Rei I there's not enough info about, but she seemed kinda bitchy, in a mean way.) 'Cause Rei II was totally Gendou's doll. She even said she'd kill herself if Gendo told her to -that's just a bit um.... what's the word... Even if she did develop some free thought near the time of her death, for the most part, she was totally pro-Gendo. Now Rei III definitely had more of a mind of her own. She totally rejected Gendo!! Yay for her~! (Even if a lot of her time in the movie was spent nude. ^.~) |
