Whoop-Up Days Parade, Tuesday, August 19, 2008

We had a good-sized band out for Whoop-Up Days in 2008. Here, the band is passing by (most are in step) with, from left to right, Art, Evan, Tom and David M nearest the camera. Another image from Whoop-Up Days is available in the history section. [Photo: Jay Wilson]

Coaldale Parade, Saturday, July 5, 2008

Lots of pictures for this day. There are many more, so by all means ask, and ye shall receive. Some of the captioning ideas come from the subject lines of e-mails containing photos sent from the Medicine Hat band (guilty parties will not be identified).

Both bands want to thank Jan for graciously allowing her home to be the venue for the post-parade barbeque.

How pipers tune before a parade.

How drummers tune before a parade.

The massed band before the parade, all minty fresh and un-sweaty.

On the move, burning up the parade. In the front rank, from the left: David K, Malcolm S, and Duncan M. [Photo: Skye Varty]

Still on the move, probably just finishing a set and our cut-off is done... but what is Jan (left, last rank) doing? Telling a fish story? "It was THIS big..." [Photo: Skye Varty]
First pipe-major, then dubbed (by Malcolm S of the Medicine Hat band) the "chef-major". All the burgers were thoroughly over-cooked, so taste was sacrificed for health, and everyone's stomach was turned into a charcoal filter.

Two views of the Medicine Hat band members playing at the BBQ. The SAPD contingent played a couple of their sets for our entertainment. Our band will learn their "Children" set over the coming year. [Photos: David Kaminski]

Here we are sharing a tune (two views).

Raymond Parade, Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Raymond's parade this year was a treat compared to last year, with cooler temperatures. Playing this year were, from left to right, Bruce, Ethan, David K (in the back), Brenda, Duncan, Tom, Art, Jan, Rob T, Cory and Josh. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij]

Warner Parade, Saturday, June 28, 2008

The gang for the Warner parade (our first one ever in Warner). From left to right: Tom, Evan, Art, Jan, Bruce, David K, Rob T, Duncan and Josh (hastily replacing his glen). It's moments like this that remind me that we have to get our band ID onto the bass drum. [Photo: Liz Moradel]

Coutts Parade, Saturday, June 21, 2008

The band for Coutts this (dry) year. From left to right: David K, Brenda, Jan, Bruce, Simeon, Rob T, Cory and Tom. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij]

Relay for Life, Friday, June 6, 2008

Part of the half-band assembled to pipe on cancer survivors at the opening ceremony for the Relay for Life fundraiser in Lethbridge. Visible in the photo are David McKillop (left) and Ethan Stokell (right). [Photo: Bridge magazine page 14, July 2008/i3]

Ex-service personnel dinner, Friday, May 30, 2008

Solo pipes portion of Highland Cathedral, played during the dessert course in the newly re-sized Legion hall. Brenda debuted as a soloist for the band's rendition of Amazing Grace. From left to right: Brenda, Tom, Jan, Josh, Simeon and David. [Photo: Glenn Miller]

Jan's wedding anniversary, Friday, May 9, 2008

The band was delighted to play for Jan's wedding anniversary celebration at the Taber Legion. We had a good-sized crew on hand, with Simeon's younger brother Barnabus trying out bass drum, and Tristan on hand to keep watch over the drum corps. Duncan played the Dutch national anthem for the well-wishers, many of whom made the trip from the Netherlands, and the celebrating bride donned her band uniform to join the band for our performance. In the photo from the left: David K, Evan, Barnabus (back to the camera), Jan, Tristan and Simeon. [Photo: relayed by Jan]

Burns night at the Blarney Stone, Friday, January 25, 2008

Our first performance of 2008, and our first Burns night performance ever, as a half-band. In addition to a gratis sampling of haggis, the Blarney Stone opened the bar to us. Too bad we didn't have designated drivers on hand. From left, Jan, Brenda, Tom, David (back to camera, with shiny bald spot reflecting glare); Josh is hidden from view. [Photo: relayed by Tom Wilson]
