Playing later in the Legion. Shawn Pinder thrilled us all with some inspired solo playing. [Photo: Legion branch photos] |
Some scenes from the first post-parade season barbeque held to celebrate the end of another busy summer of parades and performances for the band. The barbeque was put together by Jan Heetebrij (tenor) and Brenda Lockmuller (pipes) and was held at the home of then-pipe major David Kaminski, with the kind tolerance of neighbours. The crew for this year's Whoop-Up Days parade. Drew Kuzma, fourth from the left (in the back), moved to Inverness, Scotland, in early November. The line-up for the parade this year was (from left to right): Rob Tomkinson (side), Evan Moradel (pipes), Joshua Og (side), Drew Kuzma (bass), Jake Knight (pipes), David Kaminski (pipes, P/M), Jocelyne Kaminski (side), Jan Heetebrij (tenor), Simeon Weststeijn (side), Art Cogdale (pipes), Duncan MacNeill (pipes), Bruce Gedrasik (tenor). The band made it into the High River Times again. This photo appeared in the Tuesday, August 21, 2007, edition of the paper on page 8. The caption for the photo in the paper read: "ON THE MARCH - The Lethbridge Legion Pipe and Drum Band travelled to High River to entertain the audience for the George Lane Park concert series on Aug. 19. The band played such favourites as Scotland the Brave, Highland Laddie and Amazing Grace." The photo in the paper was credited to Marie Foreman. |
Sharing tunes with the South Alberta Pipes and Drums (Medicine Hat) after the Coalhurst parade, Aug. 11, 2007. Check out the links page to find out more about our neighbouring band. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
After the parade, we had fun trying to find a place to gather for refreshments following the parade, and a pizza restauranteur finally opened up to host us after much driving around from venue to venue. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
Duncan (far right [not a political statement]) ran the show. After a short parade, the band performed in circle for our hosts. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
Post-parade photo. It was a long one, easily on a par with the Whoop-Up Days parade that was to follow. It looked like Rob T (second from the right in the front) was almost done in after lugging the huge bass drum around. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
On the move -- and no, unlike Grand Funk Railroad, we're not an American band. [Photo: Maureen Wilson] |
One of the first parades of the summer season, and it was a blustery, cool day. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
After boasting to us that Coutts' parade hadn't been rained out in many many years, we arrived in several vehicles at Coutts to discover a major downpour, even though Lethbridge was warmth and sunshine when we departed. So, after being rained out, we returned to the Lethbridge Legion to enjoy a refreshment and dry out. Later, the lingerers went out into the parking lot of the Legion to share a few tunes ("I didn't get all dressed up for nothing."). A function was proceeding in the Legion hall at the time, and the participants came out to the parking lot to ask us if we would play a few tunes for the folks gathered for the memorial gathering that was underway (the dear departed apparently was fond of the pipes) -- how could we refuse?. The first parade of the season, and a much better time than the previous year's offering (no rain, no icy temperatures). Afterwards, the band was invited to Jan and Rick's place to visit. [Photo: Rick Heetebrij] |
This cellphone camera pic of the band on hand for the closing ceremony shows the crew that performed under Duncan's expert eye. Two of the drummers were obviously wired on benzedrine (or some similar energetic material). Kneeling, from left to right: Joshua Og (snare), Simeon Weststeijn (snare), Rob Tomkinson (snare), Standing, from left to right: Bruce Gedrasik (tenor), Evan Moradel (pipes), Jacob Knight (pipes), Jan Heetebrij (tenor), Cory Armfelt (pipes), Drew Kuzma [in back] (bass), Ethan Stokell (pipes), Tom Wilson (pipes), Brenda Lockmuller [in front] (pipes), Art Cogdale [in back] (pipes), Duncan MacNeil (pipes, and p/m for the event). |
