About Faye |
Ridiculous Thoughts
During the short time migrating from her home to another strange city, unable to converse in their language, and being ignorant of the music industry trade. Faye's confidence dipped and she had allowed herself to be mould. Her stay in New York made her sit up and find herself again. As she sat in a coffee joint, watching the people in the streets, unruffled and confident, she regained her confidence and self-assurance. She returned to HK, releasing albums with more say in her own dressing, overall album design and participation in song-writing. This gave her a sense of satisfaction, but it was not enough. Her enthusiasm in music production grew more than ever as with the control over her work.
1994 For Better & More |
Still under the Shirley moniker, she released 2 more albums before releasing "Ridiculous Thoughts" in 1994, finally, under her birth name: Faye Wong. |

As with the stylish, post-modern look of the CD, in a pure white casing, with dim white prints on white paper as lyrics, the tracks were distinctly refreshing from her previous works. Suddenly, listeners were introduced to her brand of eclectic musical taste. 1994 was a MAJOR year for Faye. That year, she released a total of 4 albums. "Ridiculous Thoughts", "Pleasing Myself", "Mesmerized"(her debut Mandarin effort) and another Mandarin album "Sky". Earlier in the year, Faye was approached by Wong Kar Wai and acted in her first major movie in "Chung King Express". By this time, Faye's spunky fashion sense became a part of her and she bagged many awards home that year. That was also the year she dyed her hair wow pink, had her first major concert tour in HK, which also included countries around region, Canada and America. Woh, that was one busy, breezy year. Chung King Express won Faye "Best Actress" at the Swedish Film Festival, and a "Best Actress" nomination at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards. |
