We saw the pictures as it happened, watched in disbelief and horror as first one twin tower of the World Trade Center, then the other, and then the Pentagon, was hit by hijacked planes. And not just empty planes....but planes full of people who were on their way to their homes, to their loved ones, to vacations. It could have been you on one of those planes...it could have been me. It could have been anyone of us at work in one of the offices in one of those buildings. And suddenly we realized that we are vulnerable...we are no longer a fortress, an island unto ourselves, a safe haven.
Why America? Why America, when we have helped so many, when we have been there for so many other nations in need? How could someone hate so much to want to destroy as many innocent lives as possible? So many questions, so few answers. And we wonder....what's next? Because we have had a taste of that hatred, and we know that it's appetite has yet to be sated. These handfuls of fanatic terrorists have declared a "jihad" against us...a "holy war", if it can be referred to as holy. They will stop at nothing to anihilate America. Life as we have known it is forever gone. Forever gone is the innocence we cherished, that we were somehow beyond the terrorism that haunted other nations.
What now? What next? Will we go to war? Will this be the beginning of the end? Is Armageddon right around the corner? We have no answers, no easy answers, anyway. Americans must turn to God now, not just lip service, but truly humble ourselves before Him. This great nation is being shaken for a reason...I heard a gentleman on the radio while I was driving home the other evening...he stated that he was ashamed to say he was a Christian after hearing Jerry Falwell on the Pat Robertson 700 Club say that we have brought this on ourselves. And yet...in my opinion, we have left the door wide open for satan to bring all kinds of destruction on us. Why? Because we have turned our backs on God. Fifty years ago this was a different country. We did not kill innocent babies in their mother's wombs....we did not condone and applaud homosexuality and march in parades to support what God says is a perversion. We did not have the filth on TV that we do now....even the sitcoms that we find so funny are shows that would never have been allowed to be viewed by the public even 25 years ago. We have become hardened by sin...we do not see the "evil" in evil anymore. We give lip service to God, but we do not give him our hearts. We preach "tolerance" instead of "right and wrong". God is a merciful God, God is a loving God, but God is a just God, and He has judged America and found her wanting. Did we bring this on ourselves? If you consider the fact that, for the most part, this nation has left God behind in the dust...I would have to agree with Jerry Falwell.
You may not agree with me...that's alright. Yes, America is strong, and she will rise up and come against her enemies. But if God is not by her side, she will fail. It is time for us, as a nation, to collectively return to our first love, to our Lord and humble ourselves before Him, and repent, and ask for mercy, and forgiveness. Unless we do this, this mighty country, this America, will no longer be the land of the free and the brave. |
