music & feature journalist, critic, and fan of the old school...

Greetings friends, fans, bands, and family. My name is Jason Walsh and I am a freelance writer for several outlets, concentrating mainly on independent music, but cover any worthwhile story or topic, because since I can remember in this life, I've loved to write, no matter the subject or the lack of one. My roots in hardcore, punk, and metal go back to a childhood at the Jersey shore where I discovered skateboarding and Slayer around the same time, which later graduated to hardcore when I relocated to rural Pennsylvania and a kid at school said, "you like metal, huh. well check this shit out," and lent me the first Suicidal Tendencies and Flipside Vinyl fanzine vol. 2. This was 1985, and started a lifelong love of all things hardcore and all things that aren't.

So, to write about and voice my opinion seems a natural fit.

Currently, my main outlet to which I contribute is AMP Magazine, and their sister publications, Hails & Horns and Loud Fast Rules (which is a really great old school feeling publication). I am also a regular feature contributor at On Tap Magazine out of Washington D.C., which is the District's local music and arts preview mag. I've also written for Slug Magazine (SLC, Utah), Define the Meaning (NJ), Jersey Beat, AZ Weekly, Folio Weekly (Jacksonville, FL), RVA Mag out of Richmond, New City in Chicago, The Source Weekly in Oregon, Louisville.com, and the now defunct Nin9volt.

This page has been set up to provide a look at some of the work I've done and a point of contact for bands and publications interested in working together. So, enjoy and drop me a line.
