Wired Work
This term in English we've been studying and reading about social justice. We read a story about a boy named Lincoln who wanted to see what it was like to be an underprivilaged youth in an urban community; and in return we wrote response letters describing how we felt about what he did. We've also read two novels in class. The first one, called Always Running, is the autobiography of Luis J. Rodriguez, and his prior gang lifestyle. The second one, Giovanni's Room enters the life of a homosexual male in Paris in the 1950's. We've written daily journal entries about justice, fairness, and equity. We've even started our own social justice groups which exposes the oppression of people because of age, gender, religion, race, etc. The name of my group is U.T.A.W.(Unfair Treatment Against Women). We basically are trying to show you some of the atrocities happening to women across the world that we may not hear or speak about too often that includes: female circumcisions, acid attacks, rape, and abuse. Finally, up until this week we've been creating hypertext poems. These past couple of months in class have been enlightening, fun, and educational. I've learned quite a few things I didn't know before, and I look forward to learning much more.
I feel that in this class I have gained much more then I would have in a regular English class.
