Giovanni's Room

In class we began to read Giovanni's Room, by James Baldwin. The book is set in Paris in the 1950's. The book seems to be about a boy named David who discovers that he is gay. We as readers are then taken through this journey where he develops and blooms as his life unfolds. I will be the first to tell you that I am a bit leery about reading this book! I am not homophobic or anything I am just a little uneasy about such a sensitive topic. I was very uncomfortable about some of the graphic scenes in this book and I hope not to come across too many. I feel that the writer expresses himself wonderfully but I feel that there are other techniques you can use to describe things. These are my feelings so far. 1
