I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings

In Maya Angelou's autobiography "I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings", she express her anger towards a society full of hate and injustice. She lived with her grandmother in Arkansas and most of the time wondered about her mother and father, but the only comfort she had was her brother Baiely. As the years passed by she spent a lot of time reading and going to church with her grandmother and crippled uncle.

Maya Angelou is an excellent writer in her novels she often spoke of the injustice that was done to African Americans. She grew up in a old fashioned christan home and was loved by her grandmother, who took care of her and her brother from a young age.She explains her griefs and triumphs from her childhood and while growing up,Maya Angelou(marguerite) describes her life to the readers so that he/she can actually live a part of her experiences.

She was very quiet and didn't think she was loved very much, except by her brother bailey because her parents had abandoned them and never came to visit, she always thought that they were dead, but when one day this strange man comes and claims to be her father she was surprised. She often thought they had done something bad that's why their parents went and left them with their grandmother.

Maya Angelou mentions a tragic experience that changed her life. When she went to st.Louis to be with her mother, she was sexually abused by her mother's boyfriend whom she often thought was her REAL father, because whenever he touched her she felt compassion as any child would at a young age,and not being around her parents for such a long time she thought amybe her mother.
