Here is where you can learn more about the characters that make up Spirit
Spirit -
Spirit is a wild Mustang stallion born into, and later became leader of, the Cimarron herd. He is head strong and very curious but, like most wild animals, he rather likes his freedom so when he gets captured, he will do anything to get it back. Since his first meeting with Rain he likes her and he slowly trusts Little Creek but he refuses the trust any of the other "two-leggeds". He hates the Colonel.
Rain -
Rain is Little Creek's paint mare. She was put in charge of showing Spirit what Lakota life is like and teaching him some manners. She is very shy and very loyal to Little Creek but she also really likes Spirit.
Little Creek -
Little Creek is a young Lakota Indian. He is a brave warrior and believes strongely in the bond between horse and man. Though he tries to break Spirit the Lakota way, he realizes some horses are not meant to be ridden and lets him go.
The Colonel -
The Colonel is a very stern, military man and believes any animal can be broke with brute force. There is not a kind bone in his body but there is respect and in the end he respects Spirit's, well, free spirit, and lets him go.
The Eagle -
The eagle is Spirit's friend. They run/fly together in perfect harmony, "brothers" under the sun. The eagle was terribly sad when Spirit was captured by the "two-leggeds" and Spirit is sad when he sees the eagle free when he is couped up. In the end, it is the eagle that leads Spirit and Rain back to the herd.
Esperanza -
Esperanza is Spirit's dam (mother). She is a very kind mother and loves her son very much and even warns him against going to see what the fire was. She led the herd before he was born and leads again when he is gone.
