Durant's The Age of Voltaire, page 531 Miles Walked: 112.0 cold, rain |
The total is 14 dead frogs or tadpoles, and 7 put out. Fret fret.
While Doonesbury is on hiatus (what, in 30+ years he keeps taking vacations? This is the 3rd (or maybe 4th), for goodness sakes! Slacker!!) the Bee is running other comic strips as a test. The first one they did was totally forgettable, but the current experiment is Tundra. The first one I noticed (on the 15th, the second day of this test run) had the surface of the moon with all these skeletons. I puzzled over it, and the caption ("they never mention the ones who didn't make it over") for awhile... astronauts? mooncreatures? (the skeletons had horns) till suddenly the penny dropped about "the cow jumped over the moon." The other strips are clippable, too... so today I went to the comment link and expressed how much I really enjoy the strip. I'm not alone, almost all the other comments say to "keep Tundra."
I got a call from the past: back in 1986 when I was first starting with BBSs, one of the guys had a heart attack. His wife was a meth addict, and had a bunch of unsavory friends: so the other BBS people gave their 2-year-old daughter to me to care for while her dad was in the hospital. Eventually he and the little girl moved east and mom straightened out after many years, but is now dead. The two came back a few years ago and live in Redding. "Auntie Jan, this is M." She just got married, and is being paid by the state to provide in-home care for Dad. (a diabetic). They were going to be here Thursday and hoped to see us, but we'll be out of town. Still, now I have phone numbers and addresses and information, which is nice, and we'll be sure to get together again some day.
What's Wrong with Hollywood? It's not just Hollywood. ANOTHER ANTIWAR SUICIDE BOMB:
"British cinema verite director Nick Broomfield’s film 'Battle For Haditha' is joining the rest of the wannabe Iraq-exploitation movie failures at reaching audiences with anything resembling truth or interest.."Pick up a copy of Outside the Wire instead. Amazon's even offering it bundled with Michael Yon's book. Call it the Iraq War honesty-pack.
Iraq passes another benchmark.
My poor sister-in-law. She probably thought the PA primary wouldn't be too hard when she signed up to work there. It’s the Whiner vs. the Iron Lady, or the Snob or the Liar.
Vodkapundit drunk-blogged the results: "Eight points is pretty clear and quite convincing — that Hillary will go on, that Obama is a great pitch man but a lousy closer, and that the Democratic nominating process is dysfunctional at best and bipolar at worst."
I found it really hard to decide what I wanted to happen: did I want to drive the final stake in the Wicked Witch, or did I want this fun-and-games to continue to Denver?
Good. The MSM missed this, of course, which is OK. I think the "lame duck" is getting more done than if he were running. The Democrat dysfunction helps: without the media searchlight on the President he can get a lot more done. I'm sure he's happier: he's looking forward to Crawford. He was so thrilled to have the Pope visit, and he called Deal or No Deal last night ("it's nice to be somewhere with high ratings!")
Bernadette came over and I made her tomato-and-onion pie. This because Rich was at Sharing God's Bounty so we could have onions and Robert was in Cupertino so we could have tomatoes. Yum. He doesn't have any more trips out pre-baby. She has another two weeks of work.
PETA actually has a good idea. (The end of the world is nigh.)
It is called humility.Fighter pilots have no need for it. It is just added weight in the jet that slows one down. But politicians need it. Lots of it. Those who don’t have it will be served it by the public in large doses called humiliation.
“Why Can’t I Just Eat My Waffle?” Because you are running for president. Quit whyyyyyyning already.
He who doesn't know history is doomed to repeat it?
...it cooled by about 0.7C in 2007.This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record and it puts us back where we were in 1930. If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over,” Phil Chapman of the Australian reported.More success from the National Health System...
Surber Parody. I don't normally like his parodys, but in this case, it's great.
Reid is a hypocrite. Who knew?
