April 23: St. George's Day

The legend is that there was a dragon, terrorizing the countryside, and after they had placated it with all the sheep, they started feeding it the maidens. Fortunately, St. George came along and killed it. (The actual truth is he was a martyr, beheaded for being a Christian.) I do see an analogy to attempting to placate Islamists and adjust to Shari'a law: ironic it should be in England and the most visible proponent of feeding the dragon would be the Archbishop of Canterbury!

We left for a couple of days in Reno. I hated to leave the tadpoles/tree frogs. Little tiny miracles, and I'm afraid they'll all be dead when we get back. Today one climbing the aquarium glass, huzzah! I released it, making 15 dead and 9 released.

We waited till past 10 to get started, because of the weather, but there were still some pretty scary bits. Then we got past Truckee and suddenly all was well.

When we got into Nevada, we looked for a couple of caches, then drove to the Atlantis for lunch. I did pretty well on the slots there, but quit while I was still ahead. Then we went caching some more...we got two we missed a couple of years ago, 5 others, and missed one at The Sportsman's Warehouse. This store is full of taxidermy animals, kind of a Museum of Natural History paired with the biggest big box you've ever seen. It reminded me that we were planning to check out Cabela's.

Then we went to Fitzgerald's and checked in. They're renovating the elevators, not before time, but that means instead of 3 slow elevators, there are only 2. I got a hat because I matched the birthday. We walked next door and had a good dinner in an El Dorado cafe. When we got back, I felt like maybe we should go for the nearest cache and walk there.

It was REALLY brisk!! Brrrrr! But a pleasant walk for all that, and we found the cache just as it got really dark.

I did pretty well gambling, too, and quit ahead for the night.

Falcon cam. This is great fun, a peregrine falcon's nest in San Jose.

Once again, the liberals prove the adage “the road to h*ll is paved with good intentions.” Instead of fixing the “unfair” winner-take-all system, they’ve created a system that is even more flawed.

Another liberal solution that creates more problems than it fixes. Who would’ve thought?
