Football Appreciation. Understand and discuss football with friends.Sports are a major issue on or off the street. Many's the time I yelled in soup lines "Did you see that fight last night?" and friends yelled back they'd seen it. Then followed a forum on it or some discount movie we saw, or some local incident. Football's easy to research, with lots of material available on and off line. Football's fun to watch or play. Professional teams nowadays accept qualfiying women. Hooray for Title 9, forcing school teams to accept them.
Homelessness What it's like on the streets
Homelessness - Taking advantage of lucky breaks I'm indoors now but I once camped, ate, worked, canned, showered, gossiped and partied with these fine people and still see them today. Moving to or visiting other towns I like knowing them. I like when somebody says to me "anybody who's anybody" referring to them.

Submit and discuss three or more: homelessness websites, online clubs, message boards or newsgroups, articles, periodicals. Follow homelessness in the news. Try to find submissions other than what most students here submit.Read and review a book about homelessness. What is the author's basic philosophy and values? What is his attitude towards homelessness? How does he approach homelessness? What solutions does he offer? What are his conclusions? Do you agree or disagree with the author? What solutions would you offer? May be repeated twice for extra credit. Share with the class.
Look up Yahoo homeless clubs. You don't have to join or enter discussions, but do follow discussion threads. Write a report giving the club's name, location, membership and general outlook on life. Share with the class.
Volunteer at a homeless service agency, such as a shelter, a soup line, a social services office, a clinic, a clothes closet, a drop in center, a job training class, or any other agency serving the homeless. Keep a journal. Record your experiences, observations, opinions on staff, patrons and programs. Are staff members service- or rule- oriented? Do patrons tattle on each other? How do patrons tattled on react? Is religious worship or instruction compulsory? Is there religious pressure? Is counseling or other program participation compulsory? What service limits are there? Eligibility requirements? Is there sexual or other harassment on the part of staff or patrons? How is the agency funded? Present your findings with the class. Compare and contrast this agency with agencies providing similar services.
Divide into cliques or families. One for all and all for one. Points are earned for unselfish team support as well as for acquiring food, clothes and other needs for yourself and your friends. For example earn easy cash canning (collecting bottles and cans) for cash. A vanload of people on business trips collects more than one person with even two shopping carts. Soup lines, clothes closets also count, as does campsite safety in numbers. Share your experiences with the class. These things can be drawn from class material, outside articles and interviews, and by observing and interacting with the homeless. Also discuss what problems you would have as homeless. Write individual and group reports and participate in online discussion.
