The complete
overhaul of the EuroDirect fleet began in November 1999. First,
in a series of high level meetings the future fleet strategy was
discussed and the benefits of each available aircraft type were
analysed in terms of cost and suitability. A decision was taken
to reduce the numbers of different aircraft types on the fleet in
order to reduce maintenance and operating costs. This was achieved
through the sale of some aircrafts and the termination of leases
where possible.
At the same time certain areas were
identified where significant orders were needed to increase operating
capacity and efficiency. This resulted in large orders for the CRJ
200 and Dash 8 Q400 aircrafts from Bombardier, a very large order
with Airbus and, most recently, an order with Boeing for the 747-400
and 767-300.
Details of EuroDirect's ongoing negotiations
for these and further aircrafts can be found in the Orders section
of the Fleet News.
