Books
I love books and enjoy reading fictions because it takes me to a far, far away place where I can be anyone I want to be - the villain or hero.. You can say I'm a little bit of a daydreamer.. :P I have read the five Harry Potter books, LOTR triology and The Hobbit. Those that read recently are listed below. Enjoy!
Supernatural : Odd Thomas By Dean Koontz
I borrowed this book recently from my community library. I find it a little dark and spooky but it has a very touching ending.
This book centralize on the young main character Odd who has a sixth sense. Besides this gift, he can also see dark shadows which he called "bodachs" that linger around someone or something when a disaster (usually involves death) is about to strike. The more the number, the worse the disaster. This reminds me greatly of those human sillouettes that were seen around those who are near death in the movie The Eye. Odd, as our hero, tries his best to help the dead who got (or choose to be) left-behind in this world due to unfinished business and to prevent disasters from happening.
Comedy : Jemima Jones By Jane Green
This book was recommended to me by a colleague when I told her I was trying to lose weight (at that time my BMI stood at 30% - gasp!). The adult book is funny and I can relate very well to the character. It is sad how some people judge you by your looks, ya?
Our British heroine here is Jemima who is very overweight. She and two of the colleagues, Ben (who she has a crush on) and Geraldine (who gets her job because of her looks) chatted with Brad (an American) in the internet relay chat (IRC). When Bob and Jemima exchanged photos (Geraldine had digitally modified Jemima’s photo such that her face looked slimmer and on a sports model’s body taken out of a magazine), he invites Jemima over to stay at his beach house. In order not to disappoint him, Jemima goes on a strict regime of excessive exercises and starvation to reduce her frame and manage to lose half her weight. Her boss also started treating her differently and even promises her a promotion which she has been asking for many years. A series of unexpected events occur as she sets off in search of Brad in America.
Self Improvement : Tuesdays with Morrie By Mitch Albom
My friend told me about this book and how touched he is by it. I find it enligtening, inspiring and changes my perception on life. Mitch meets up with his mentor, Morrie every Tuesday for lessons on life. Although, Morrie was not in the best of health, he shared with Mitch his views. You may want to check this document for the life lessons taught.
