THE NEW EPSILON PHI CHAPTER OF DELTA ZETA

During the mid-1950's, efforts were underway for the merging of two prestigious sororites: Delta Sigma Epsilon and Delta Zeta. After much negotiating and review of chapters (some campuese had both groups among their Panhellenic membership, on August 21, 1956 in New Orleans, LA, Evelyn Adams Costello addressed the National conclave of Delta Sigma Epsilon as the New President of the merged sorority. This merger made Delta Zeta one fo the largest national sororities in the country.

Since U-D already had a local chapter of Delta Sigma Epsilon (Beta Beta) it was decided that the campus chapter would keep the "Epsilon" name from the former Delta Sigma Epsilon Sorority, and the "Phi" was added to it to differentiate it from the new Delta Zeta chapter at Wayne Sate University (Epsilon Sigma).
