The New Epsilon Phi Chapter
An Era Ends

AN ERA ENDS

In 1973, with waning membership figures, and a U-D student climate that appeared not favorable towards Greek life, Delta Zeta National Headquarters decided to close Epsilon Phi's chapter. It was not an easy decision to make, but the early 1970's was a time when the turbulent national politics of the Vietnam Era worked its way onto college campuses across the United States. Many colleges had student bodies
whose philosophies differed greatly from polticial and social culture of the 1950's and 60's, and the ideals that worthy Greek life held.

National Headquarters felt that it would be best to close Epsilon Phi and retain the chapter's memory as being a special place for U-D women from 1956 to 1973 to find sisterhood, develop their sense of responsibilty to themselves and to the community at large, enhance their spiritual and social growth, and to find a connection
to the large arena of Delta Zeta alumnae life if they so chose.

Efforts are under way to find many of our "lost" Epsilon Phi Sisters. If you have knowledge of the whereabouts of any of your Pledge Sisters, Big Sisters you had, Little Sisters you carefully watched over, or other Sisters who graduated before or after your graduation, please please contact them AND me so they can, if they choose, rekindle past friendships and acquaintances. Thank you so very much for any help you can give!
