Generation No. 1

1. MARSHALL2 OSBORNE (UNKNOWN1) was born 1795 in KY but there is a question. His daughter, Sallie's death certificate says he was born in NC., and died Bef. January 1876 in Farmington Township, Davie Co., NC. He married SALLY MOSBORNE WIFE Abt. 1830 in Unknown. She was born 1809 in NC, and died in After 1879/80 as she is shown in 1870 on Davie Co. census and she is listed in the 1879-80 Charlotte Directory as the widow of Marshall.

1850 Census lists his birth state as KY - wife born NC and children born NC.

1870 census lists his birth state as NY - wife born NY, dau Sallie b. Virginia, Victoria and Peter b. NC

In 2001, Peter Andrew Osborne's descendant, Jill, received a death certificate concerning Sallie Osborne who was a sister of Peter Andrew and daughter of Marshall, which stated that both of her parents were born in NC. Can not account for the confusion about the birth states.

Following is the contents of a letter written to (unknown but was in possession of Elizabeth Osborne Vickrey) concerning the death of her father Ezekiel Newton Osborne, brother to Sallie Osborne, who is referred to in the letter, and brother-in-law to the Dorcas Osborne who signed the letter. The postmark was from 310 W. 7th Street Charlotte, NC, on Oct 28, 1911.

My Dear Niece,

Aunt Sallie is with us now she has just received your sad letter telling us of the death of your dear father. You all have my deepest sympathy and I feel that I know how to sympathize for I have gone through with the same sadness. (Maybe referring to her own husband) I know you feel lonely and of course there is a vacant place in your home which never can be filled - I my dear which - or I think there is one more called to the heavenly family and of course as you say it - won't be long until we have all paid the same debt. Some is always and now you realize its your - dear girl let me promise you to Him who doeth all things well and who is ready to comfort.

Give and my love them my heart goes out for them in kindest sympathy. I have thought of your father and you all so much and would write more than I do but I can't write like I used to - but it is not because I don't think of you. I wish we were nearer where we could be together but I that if we came to here than we will unbroken family around the of Him who will never forsake us.

Aunt Sallie will write soon she is not able to write today she sees over the loss of her only Bro.

Lots of love to all especially your dear Mother.

Write when you can

Your loving Aunt -

Dorcas Osborne

( the blank spaces represent word/words that I can not interpret. The little - were actually there so I put them where she had them.) [I take it that all of the boys in the Osborne family were deceased as of Oct 1911 since said something about her only brother.]

1870 census was enumerated on 2 Aug

Notes for SALLY MOSBORNE WIFE:

Charles Emerson & Co's Charlotte, NC City Directory of 1879-80 list Sallie Osborne, wid of Marshall, east cor 6th & Poplar.

1880 Davie County Census lists Sallie Osborne as a widow with daughters, Sallie, Victoria, son Isem and his wife Emma and their daughters Mary and Stella.

Children of MARSHALL OSBORNE and SALLY WIFE are:

        i. THOMAS M.3 OSBORNE, b. 1832, North Carolina.
       ii. LATNEY WILLIAM OSBORNE, b. 1834, North Crolina; d. 07 November 1908,
                     Charlotte, Mecklenbugy Co., NC.
iii. CANDACE OSBORNE, b. 1835, North Carolina.
      iv. DAVID(S) OSBORNE, b. 1837, North Carolina.
      v. SALLIE OSBORNE, b. 1840, North Carolina; d. February 1917, Charlotte, NC.
Notes for SALLIE OSBORNE: Death certificate or ledger paper that has name
Julie Sadler then the Sadler is marked out. ( I do not know who sigend for her
where sadler came from} We know that she was never married and that she
             died of nephritis.

So one of the persons name Julia in the Latney William Osborne plot is really
             his sister Sallie.

In the 1900 Farmington Township, Davie Co., census enumerated in June of
1900 we find Sallie A. Osborne and sister Victoria living together.  Sallie was
listed as 58 born in Virginia and Victoria, born Aug 1847 and 52 was listed as
born in NC. The father for both was listed as born in NC and the Mother for
both was also listed as born in NC.  Sallie is listed as a post mistress, working
in the post office, in 1900. It is known that she moved back to Charlotte and
died there in 1917. It is not known what happened to Victoria.
vi. ELIZABETH OSBORNE, b. 1842, North Carolina.
     vii. EZEKIEL NEWTON OSBORNE, b. 06 May 1844, Stokes Co., or Surry Co., NC;
                       d. 17 October 1911, died in field hoeing corn, Baxter Co., AR.
viii. VICTORIA OSBORNE, b. 1846, North Carolina.  (A family member wrote these
notes: Mocksville is where lived. I rode a train to their house. Made liquor legal.
Aunt Sallie not allow go where still was.)
ix. ISAM OSBORNE, b. 1848, North Carolina.
      x. PETER ANDREW OSBORNE, b. 1851, Statesville, Iredell Co., NC; d. 12 June 1905,
                     Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC.
