48. Configure policy-based routing using route maps

Route map

• Is named similar to an access-list number
• Statements are named, each line individually numbered, allow editing capabilities
• Use match command, similar to statements in an access-list
• When a match is made, the route map will change the route with the set command

Policy-based routing

• Implemented with Route Maps
• Permit load sharing
• Permits source-based packet redirection

Implementing policy routing via route-maps

• If a route-map "match" is not met by any route-map entry, routing is controlled by normal destination based routing controlled by the routers ip routing table.
• If a route-map "match" is met by a route-map entry specifying "deny", routing is controlled by normal destination based routing controlled by the routers ip routing table.
• If a route-map "match" is met by a route-map entry specifying "permit", routing is controlled by the corresponding route-map "set" action.
