6. Use VLSMs to extend the use of the IP addresses

VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking) provides a more efficient use of address space when subnetting.

Protocols that support VLSM

  1. BGP
  2. EIGRP
  3. ISIS
  4. OSPF
  5. RIP2

RIP1 doesn't support VLSM because it does not have the subnet mask field.
