The Dominance of Rural Issues During Mcblair’s Administrations. |
|||
Ruralites i.e. the landowning elite, pharmers and the pharming industry, have virtually set the agenda of mcblair's government ever since its election in 1997:- the bse in Cattle crisis; the demos at holyhead leading to the ransacking of a lorry and the dumping of meat in the docks; the disputes over the lack of rural post offices, rural shops, rural pubs, rural banks, etc; the reform of the house of lords; the countryside march in 1998; opposition to the ban on Fox hunting; the three month-long bseef war with france in the autumn 1999; the promotion of genetic engineering; the refusal to take action over bse in Sheep; the tony martin case where ruralites demanded that country folk should have the right to blast people (urbanites) in the back, without warning, with pump action shotguns; the fuel tax rebellion in september 2000 before finally petering out in november 2000. The autumn 2000-winter 2001 floods, the foot and mouth epidemic, Is it any wonder that urbanites are getting sick and tired of having to put up with these yapping, whingeing, rural scroungers? |
