Melchett's resignation is strange - almost wilson-like,

So why did he resign? Why did he resign now? It was only
on october 5th, that greenpeace announced it was going to challenge the fuel
protestors in order to argue the case for fuel taxes. The resignation comes
at an extremely critical moment when greenpeace is about to meet what could
be one of its biggest challenges and when there is a distinct possibility of
a challenge to a democratically elected government. It has to be asked whether
melchett agreed or disagreed with the policy of challenging the protestors?
If he disagreed was the disagreement so fundamental that he felt it was a resigning
issue? Has he decided, like many other greens, to throw his weight behind the
fuel tax protestors? Or is it possible that rural thugs have threatened him,
his family, and his pharm? He must realize that if he acts against pharmers
then he will be regarded as a traitor in his own pharming community and there
would be local thugs who might want to take revenge.
Now that he has resigned the question is, 'Who is going to
replace him?' Is greenpeace's next leader going to be yet another member of
the over-privileged, land-owning, pharming aristocracy or is it going to get
someone with a wider experience of life - someone who lives in an urban area,
who actually likes living in urban areas, who wants to do something to support
urban greens, and who has not been educated in the eton and oxbridge schools
for overprivileged jerks? Just as importantly, is greenpeace going to treat
the appointment of a new leader as simply an inside job or is it going to consult
with the rest of the green movement, which it claims to represent, about who
they would like to see as the head of what is one of the biggest, richest, and
most powerful, green organizations? Is it going to allow outsiders to have a
say about the direction in which the organization ought to go in the future?
There are many of us who accept that greenpeace is right
to keep its autocratic status in order to prevent the organization from being
infiltrated, and taken over, by its enemies but this doesn't mean it has no
moral or political obligations to set up a procedure to allow people from the
rest of the green movement to have an input into where the organization should
be going. Or is greenpeace going to follow in the footsteps of 'the ecologist'
whose appointment of a new editor was made by a couple of cronies who, unsurprisingly,
gave the job to one of their friends or, to be precise, one of their relatives,
as if the post is a family heirloom to be passed on from generation to generation
without any external input.

had gone up to 90,000 and the mirror was very upbeat about the prospects for
the new law. However it does report on various incidents.
The labour party is putting out black propaganda to the media
in order to prepare public opinion for jack straw’s new bill proscribing Animal

system, due to go live early next year and aimed at cutting the group's emissions.
And it could form the basis of the government's plans for trading of pollution
permits. Yesterday's launch follows an outspoken attack by BP Amoco chief executive,
Sir John Browne, on the government's energy tax, which from 2001 will add to
companies' fuel bills but hand out the cash raised in a general reduction of
national insurance contributions. He argued for a trading system which would
allow companies to buy pollution permits from other companies whose emissions
were below their permitted levels - just as his company's individual businesses
will be able to trade with each other, in pursuit of targets set by the group.
In a speech earlier this week seen by green activists as an about-turn in the
group's environmental policy, Sir John described the proposed climate change
levy as a `sin tax' which would not achieve the desired change in behaviour.
Speaking at the UK Natural Environment Research Council, he said: `I think this
proposal is wrong because it is ineffective and intellectually unjustifiable.'
BP was the first oil company to break ranks with the industry two years ago
and accept the need to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other global warming
gases. Earlier this year the group's deputy chief executive, Rodney Chase, said
an energy tax could be `a powerful instrument for changing behaviour'. Yesterday
BP Amoco's director of enviromental issues, Charlotte Grezo said the group still
believed in the principle of taxing emissions but thought the climate change
levy was flawed.”[9]
A Short History of BP
BP is one of the world's most profitable multi national corporations
but it's up to its neck in so much ecological debt to Third world countries
it makes their financial debts seem insignificant. It's going to take centuries
for BP to repay its debts to the Earth. And its going to be made to repay every
single ounce of carbon.
In order to provide a little historical context, perhaps
the following item might be of some interest.
"In September 1951, Iranian troops shut BP's British
technicians out of the oil installations they had run for four decades. This
was unacceptable to Western interests, and set in motion a chain of events that
culminated in the 1953 CIA engineered overthrow of Mossadegh's government and
the installation of the notorious Shah and his CIA/Israeli Mossad trained SAVAK
secret police. An interesting part of this sordid story, as Time magazine reported
on Feb 4th 1991, is that one of the American advisors in Teheran who played
a key role in the coup was former army general H Norman Schwarzkopf, Sr., father
of 'Friendly Fire' Schwarzkopf." (The Fifth Estate Spring 1991 p.9).
BP The Big Green Giant
Buried somewhere in the depths of an earlier issue of CV
is the story of a BP lackey who'd got a job as a local magistrate and then abused
his position by refusing to give the 'ull Green party a bar extension for a
fund raising gig. The last thing BP wants is the public giving money to green
causes.
Several months later there was an accident at one of BP's
factories and a huge pink cloud of iodine wafted over the city. This is why
it is often referred to these days as the Big Pink Cloud corporation.
However, these are just piddly little incidents in comparison
with what was to come. BP's attitude to that little bonfire in the Gulf was
outlined by managing director Basil Butler, "The pall of smoke should not
create any major effect on the climate locally and certainly not worldwide."
(The Sun 23.1.91. p.23).
In the early 1990s BP decided to spend $120,000,000 on turning
the Earth green. Fantastic. Was this not exactly what rich consumers in the
northern industrialized nations had been waiting to hear; that the one of the
world's top multination-al corporations was going to take decisive action to
save the planet from an ecological holocaust? At last, it seemed as if an unimaginably
huge multinational corporation was going to use its unimaginably colossal resources
to ensure the survival of humankind.
So, what do you think this money was spent on? Curbing carbon
emissions? Reforesting the Earth? Setting up wildlife sanctuaries to save what
was left of the planet's wildlife?
BP used this vast sum of money to turn its slightly green
logo a slightly deeper green (sic). Hundreds of thousands of logos on corporate
offices and vehicles around the world had to be repainted; billions of BP's
products had to be packaged with the new logo; new letter headed notepaper had
to be printed; new car stickers produced, etc, etc. Changing, or rather, slightly
altering, a corporate image is a massive and very expensive project. And just
to make sure the tens of millions of disgustingly over privileged livestock
consumers in the northern industrialized nations noticed that BP had indeed
gone a deeper shade of green an endless number of commercials were made to point
out the difference. Unfortunately, those with black and white sets hadn't got
a clue about the profound changes being shown on their screens.
$120,000,000 to change a logo. Now that's what I call real
mind blowing extravagance. That's really gross indulgence on a mega scale. We
are talking Marie Antoinette and Elmelda Marcos here. And, without a doubt,
this adjustment undoubtedly damaged the planet. All that paint, and all that
printing.
This mega scale decadence doesn't finish there of course.
Whilst the great Green Giant was tarting itself up as an environmentally minded
company, it was sabotaging, in collaboration with a number of other colossally
mega multinational corporations, the most radical environmental legislation
ever proposed anywhere in the world.
In California a citizens' referend was held last year when
Californian environmentalists proposed a series of radical new laws to protect
the environment which was known as Proposition 128 (popularly called Big Green).
It was defeated because multinational corporations spent over a million dollars
on advertising campaigns to persuade people to vote against the proposition.
Shell gave $608,000; ICI, $380,000; and BP, £171,000.
"Proposition 128 was decisively defeated 64%-36%. The
rejection of Big Green represented a crushing defeat for environmentalists.
It stipulated some of the toughest regulations in the industrialized world against
agricultural pesticides, logging of ancient trees, emissions of CFCs and production
of carbon dioxide. But a richly funded opposition campaign from business interests
emphasized the cost and overtook an initial lead for the measure." (Guardian
8.11.90. p.12).
The good news, however, is that BP recently won the 'Better
Environment' award for a deicer that clears airport runways. Sir Fred Warner,
chair of the awards' assessors, stated, "It is harmless to groundwater,
plant and animal life; it's easily biodegradable with lower oxygen demand than
glycol-based products or urea, and there is no waste in manufacture." Isn't
this what they said about CFCs?
Oh, sorry, I nearly forgot. This award scheme was sponsored
by ... Shell UK. (HDM 13.3.91. p.6).

Good, eh? Well, sorry to have to tell you this but there's
no such thing as unleaded petrol. Just because they don't put lead into petrol
doesn't mean to say that it doesn't contain lead. Thus marketing petrol as being
unleaded is just a plain simple, honest to goodness, LIE. CV says to BP's green
frauds, "Just who do you think you are kidding? Do you think we're all
as moronic and servile as Hull's Labour city councillors?
And yet despite all this there are those in the gween movement
who say we have got to persuade companies like BP to reform themselves and become
an environmentally friendly multinational corporation!!! There are also those
who believe there is no point in criticizing BP because when Greens get in to
power they will need the company's highly skilled management to get us out of
the ecological mess.
Tred Lightly on the Earth: Stomp on Polluters
Such naivety is almost on a par with BPs appalling green
cynacism. What is the point of trying to reason with such cynical scum? When
the Earth party gets into power if BP cannot justify what it is doing ecologically
then we're going to close it down; put the whole of its top management on trial;
if found guilty, everything they own will be sold off and the money used to
repair the Earth; and then they'll be put them on chain gangs to dig up all
the cement they've laid around the planet. There's no point in trying to brush
the dirt off turds.
Just as a footnote; what we want to know is what Esso (of
Exxon Valdez fame) is going to do once the planet's wild tigers have all been
exterminated? You can tell green frauds by the way they use natural images and
then do sweet bugger all to protect the reality. If Esso really cared about
tigers it would be doing something about saving them from extinction.
What an embarrassment that green image is going to be for
Esso when the Tigers have all gone.

America is allegedly the leading cause of global burning
and has sufffered over the past few years from the problems created by its own
environmental stupidity - even if the environmentally stupid still believe these
climatic disasters are just an accident of nature. "The warmer weather
is helping disease carrying Animals to spread further north covering larger
areas of the united states. Leading experts on climate change warned last night
that global burning is making cities in the northern hemisphere more vulnerable
to outbreaks of potentially lethal strains of tropical diseases. Recent weather
related disasters like hurricane mitch have spawned clusters of water, Rodent
and Mosquito-borne infections. They were spreading diseases further north than
previously seen."[1]

The Mosquito has even reached new york. In september 1999
three people in new york died from an anthropogenically-induced, Mosquito-borne
disease. As a result of these deaths, the major of new york decided to take
decisive action to rid his city of these threats to public health. As an oomano-imperialist,

He might have thought about trying to clear up the rubbish
which plagues the city and contains the perfect breeding grounds for Mosquitoes
but gulliano wanted everything to stay the same. Not knowing anything whatsoever
about the environment, it was not surprising his timing turned out to be a little
wayward. He’d forgotten there was such a thing as rain. A few days after the
spraying operation the dying embers of a hurricane, which he must have known
had hit the southern united states and invariably moved north, drenched the
city not only washing away most of the pesticide but creating even more pools
and ponds in which the Mosquitoes could breed. It was reported that eventually
the disease, “The seven people who died in the new york area last year were

wacko, decided, once again, to strike a macho pose and go on the offensive to

second time around. This time he allowed his oomano-imperialist proclivities

The spread of blood sucking Mosquitoes across america is
also going to help spread other Animal diseases amongst oomans, "Diseases relayed
by mosquitoes - such as malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever and several kinds
of encephalitis (also rift valley feber) - are among those eliciting the greatest
concern as the world warms. Mosquitoes acquire disease-causing micro-organisms
when they take a blood meal from an infected animal or person. (And then pass
them on when they take their next meal). Mosquito-borne disorders are projected
to become increasingly prevalent because their insect carriers, or ‘vectors’,
are very sensitive to meteorological conditions. Excessive heat kills insects
as effectively as cold does. Nevertheless, within their survivable range of
temperatures, mosquitoes proliferate faster and bite more as the air becomes
warmer. At the same time, greater heat speeds the rate at which pathogens inside
them reproduce and mature. Some models project that by the end of the 21stc,
ongoing warming will have enlarged the zone of potential malaria transmission
from an area containing 45% of the world’s population to an area containing
60%. (Malaria was restricted to california in the 1980s). Since 1990, however,
outbreaks of locally transmitted malaria have occurred during hot spells in
texas, florida, georgia, michigan, new jersey and new york (as well as in toronto).

But one reasonable explanation for its persistence and amplification here centres
on the weather’s effects on Culex pipiens mosquitoes, which accounted

paying yet another price for their appalling environmental ignorance. But the
american-induced warmer weather is not merely going to spread Animal diseases
amongst humans - it’s also going to spread human diseases amongst humans as
aids and bse are present in the blood.
Summer 2000 - Forest Fires in the Western United States.
After months of Forest fires in the western united states
over the summer 2000 doubtlessly many planetless american livestock consumers
are muttering that it’s about time these Forests were logged and cemented over
to prevent more disruption to the consumption process.
George Wuerthner argues that tackling range pharming would
solve a multitude of problems, "Ultimately, it would be more effective, and
provide long term solutions to issues of concern if the source of the problem
were defined and dealt with directly rather than working on a host of separate,
but interrelated issues. The issue of wolf reintroduction in the West is a livestock
issue. The shooting of bison wandering from Yellowstone park is a livestock
issue. The potential extinction of grayling is a livestock issue. The recovery
of Pacific salmon is, in part, a livestock issue. The designation of wilderness,
particularly on BLM lands is effectively a livestock issue. The construction
of dams on our western waterways, is all too frequently a livestock issue. And
