Why was Anastasia
believed to have survived the Russian Revolution?
There were numerous reasons why the Russians so strongly believed that
Anastasia was still alive. The name Anastasia is Greek for “the woman who
rose again,” and this in itself was enough to ignite rumors about her survival.
Also, Russian report had it that she had not been hit by bullets - some
may have ricocheted off her jewelry - but merely fainted. Although it was
recorded that she had been killed afterwards, the Anastasia rumors lived,
bolstered by her failure to die in the initial volley.
