What was the real
Anastasia like?
The Tsar's youngest daughter, Anastasia, knew how to have fun. She possessed
a rollicking wit and was a brilliant mimic, skewering the pompous or boring
at her parents' dinner table. Her nickname was 'shvibzik', Russian for
imp. Though bright, the blue-eyed blonde Anastasia was no pupil. Her tutor
Pierre Gilliard described her as 'extremely idle.' She, in turn, tried
mightly to avoid the classroom. She liked wearing perfume and lolling in
her father's bathtub. She often climbed trees, refusing to come down from
her perch until ordered to do so directly by the Tsar.
