Purpose of this page: To inform people who Scorpions are, and to acknowledge the great music they have created, and the musicians who are and have been in the band. This page is my own little dedication to my personal favorite band of all time and existence. There will be little updates, and my own reviews and thoughts and some pictures and whatever else comes to mind.
Who Scorpions are: The Teutonic Hard Rock Terror of the World, Scorpions have been pounding out their music for over 25 years, and they are still going at it, with their newest album Eye to Eye being released in Spring 1999. The band originates in Hannover, Germany, way back in the early 1970's which was started by Rudolf Schenker. During most of the 70's they lived under a cult shroud, appealing mostly to European and Asian markets, until they finally broke into the North American markets with their album Lovedrive. The first half of the 1980's proved to be the golden time for Scorpions while their next four albums, Animal Magnetism, Blackout, Love at First Sting, and World Wide Live all sold well. They once again came back into the scene even harder than before with their glastnost hit "Wind of Change". Unfortunately, the grunge and alternative scene appeared and the hard rock of the 80's fell out of grace with the music business, but still Scorpions continued creating the music they wanted. In 1993, they came out with their hardest hitting effort to date Face the Heat, but then turned the tables with the next album on Pure Instinct which was filled with many more ballads, but still had the powerful rockers just like all of their other albums. They once again took another turn in their musical approach with their newest album Eye to Eye by adding European electro-beats to their hard rock style, creating an interesting flavor of sounds.
Current News: The new Scorpions album Eye To Eye has been released in certain parts of Europe. It's supposed to be released to the rest of Europe on 29. March 1999. There has been no official date when it will be released world wide. They are planning on touring the U.S. for about 25 shows with Motley Crue during the summer. The first single off the album is "To Be Number One" which has been released in Europe. From what little I've gathered, I'm guessing they are on the Eastwest record label, but I have seen nothing towards non-European release dates of the new album. They also have an official web site up at www.the-scorpions.com. You can see the video for "To Be Number One" at http://www.prosieben.de/jets/video/jet3.ram.
