Scorpions History
In 1965, Rudolf Schenker created a pop rock band called Scorpions, but it
was not until 1970 when the band started to congeal and the true legend
was born...
In the late 60's or early 70's, a group of young Germans formed the first
stable incarnation of Scorpions. Klaus Meine and Michael Schenker
originally met and were in a band called Copernicus, but when that
disbanded, they went to join Michael's brother's band -- Scorpions. Rumor
has it that Rudolph Schenker, the founder of the band, was in a studio and
he heard Klaus singing and he decided that Klaus was a much better hard
rock singer than he was. (Note: Rudolph originally sang lead vocals in
addition to playing guitar. Rudolph did sing on a few songs in the 70's
like the middle of "Drifting Sun" and the verses of "Hey You".)
