5/03/1999, Monday - Great With Christopher
(age: 5 years, 2 months, 16 days)
Nicole was really good with Christopher this weekend. One time Christopher was blocking her bedroom door. Nicole said "Close the door, Christopher." Christopher yelled "No!" Nicole said "Okay, I'll close the door." Christopher again yelled "No!". Nicole then replied "Okay, we'll leave the door open." Believe me, that's amazing.

Nicole and Tina went to garage sales on Saturday and found a big metal fire truck for Christopher. Nicole showed it to Christopher to which he said "Oh, thank you Sissy!" He's been in love with it ever since. In fact, I was with him a short while later and he was literally singing Nicole's praises.

Last night we told bedtime stories to the kids together in Nicole's bed. After the story, Nicole said she wanted Christopher to sleep with her and was giving him kisses and snuggling. It was really sweet to see how much she loves her little brother. We told her, though, that the bed was too high for him at this age and they could have a "slumber party" some other time. It was a good thing anyway because Nicole has a terrible cold and spent much of the night coughing and having trouble sleeping.

5/05/1999, Wednesday - Preschool Graduation, Dance Recital
(age: 5 years, 2 months, 18 days)
Nicole's Graduation CartoonLast night was Nicole's graduation from pre-school. It was a wonderful program. They wore graduate hats with a tassle tagged with a '99. They walked up the isle slowly to Pomp and Circumstance. And they stood on risers and sang a wonderful set of graduation songs. They then went up one by one to receive their "diplomas" and a new Bible as a gift. They also then announced what each child wanted to be when they grew up. Nicole had said she wanted to be a firefighter. When we later asked her why, she said "I don't know". It was all really sweet. And I thought all the kids did exceptionally well, considering how young they are.

It was a busy night. We skipped the graduation reception and went straight to a school where Nicole's Dance recitle was being held. Both events started at 7pm! But Nicole's dance class was 12th on the schedule. We changed Nicole into her outfit in the car and just as we arrived at the staging area a lady came up and gave the "get ready, you're coming up" message. We borrowed some lipstick (the dancers have to wear makeup) and Nicole was ready.

The dance went really well. Nicole said beforehand that she was nervous, but she didn't look it at all. She looked a little serious. We told her she should smile, but the only time she did was when she bumped into another girl. She still looked wonderful. I'm glad the busy night went well.

5/12/1999, Wednesday - Monkey Bars, Bugs
(age: 5 years, 2 months, 25 days)
Nicole has been amazing us this week with her amazing skill on the Monkey Bars. She's now going back and forth all by herself and she's quite proud of it.

The kids are into bugs now. Perhaps it's because they just watched the movie "A Bug's Life". They found a big snail the other night and put it in their bug jar. Since then they've been collecting rollie-pollie's to keep it company.
