01/06/99, Wednesday - Picking Clothes, Cheese Shapes
(age: 2 year, 1 month, 17 days)
Christopher has always been more particular about his clothes than Nicole. A few weeks ago Tina tried to put on
a really cute Christmas sweater but he absolutely refused to wear it. He even said "No, yuck!"
To make it even funnier, it was a sweater we got from one of Nicole's friends, Matthew. He always refused to wear
it also. I guess it's a boy thing. Last Sunday I tried to dress Christopher in some overalls that he's had problems
with before. Tina came into the room to help. I kept pointing out the bears and bear claws on the pants and Tina
assured him that we'd fix the straps (I guess they had problems falling down the last time he wore them). After
that I was able to get him dressed. The coveralls were gray and navy and Tina layed out a navy turtleneck. Christopher
said "No, red!" to the shirt. I insisted and he did let me put on the navy shirt. He does seem
to know what he wants.
The other day I came home from work and Christopher ran up to me, looking at his shoes saying "Look
Daddy, Sunday School shoes!" He was wearing his black dress shoes and was quite proud.
Christopher loves cheese. He's lactose intolerant, but it's getting much better and we're able to give him cheese
slices on occation. A while back he was eating a slice. He took bit the usual semicircular shapes out of the slice
and then held it up and said "Batman cheese!" Sure enough, the cheese looked like it had bat wings.
01/11/99, Monday - Sliding & Whoa Nellie!
(age: 2 year, 1 month, 22 days)
Christopher is now sliding down the slide sitting up. He used to slide down feet first on his tummy. Tina takes
the kids to Burger King on occasion and they play in the play land tubes. Christopher has been unable to go into
the tubes because the only access is a rope ladder that his was too small to climb. Well, last week he made it
up the rope ladder and learned to slide down sitting up. He was so excited he spent the entire time going down
the slide over and over.
I gave Christopher a bath Saturday night. He was playing with some toys, making them talk to each other, giving
them baths. While I watched I heard him say "Whoa Nellie!". I have no idea where he learned that
phrase. It was a total surprise.
01/12/99, Tuesday - Potty Training? - Just thinking about it
(age: 2 year, 1 month, 23 days)
Christopher hasn't really been interested in the potty lately. However on Sunday something very cute happened.
Tina was in the kitchen and I was in the computer room. I heard Christopher yelling in the hallway and went out
to see what it was all about. He was standing at the corner of the hall, yelling back toward the living room "I'll
be right back. I'm going to sit on the potty. I'll be right back." He was then wanting help to turn on
the light, so I did. He proceeded to sit down on the toilet (kid seat in place). He started tugging a bit at his
diaper so I asked "Are you really going potty?" He replied "Yes, uhh mmm" in a very
matter of fact tone. After a bit he was done, got up and ran back to the livingroom.
01/20/99, Wednesday - Computer Skills
(age: 2 year, 2 month, 0 days)
It is always amazing to watch a little child learn to use the computer. Christopher has all of a sudden become
quite proficient. He can now use the mouse very well and has even graduated to "click-and-drag" abilities.
Now he can enjoy many of the software packages without much supervision. His current favorite is "Mickey's
ABC's". It's actually an ancient DOS program, but it's designed well and the it teaches where all the letters
are on the keyboard and words that start with that letter. He also like's Elmo's Preschool which requires lots
of clicking and some dragging.
01/25/99, Monday - New Bed. Great Quotes
(age: 2 year, 2 month, 5 days)
Last night was a big milestone in Christopher's life. He graduated from his crib to a toddler bed. Mommy got him
a new Mickey Mouse sheet set and he loved it. Last night he slept there exceptionally well. The only glitch we
had was yesterday's nap time. He had a little difficulty going to sleep (not unusual) and we caught him out of
bed playing with trucks one time. After we put him back, he slept very well.
Christopher is at the age where everything he says is cute. As with most kids, he really doesn't like getting
his hair rinsed in the bathtub. He's afraid he'll get water in his eyes. Everytime I finish rinsing his hair he'll
say either "I'm fine." or "I'm just fine". I guess he feels he has to verify
that nothing terrible happened.
Saturday night, Tina left early to babysit for some friends. I put the kids down to bed myself and they didn't
see her again until morning. Christopher woke up at his usual early 6am. I carried him into the bedroom to see
Mommy and with a note of great relief he said "Mommy, I'm so glad you're back!"
Our church has remote parking. Since the kids love to ride the bus and the parking is really pretty convenient,
we always park there. The bus dropped us off in the lot after church. As we walked away, Christopher turned, waved
and said "Bye bye bus. Until next time." Where does he get this stuff?
