02/05/2001, Monday - 3rd Grade Reading in First Grade.
(age: 6 years, 11 months, 18 days)
Nicole is in a program at school where they get some sort of prize if they read 10 hours in a month. Well, Nicole has already racked up four hours and it's only the fifth. Tina talked to Nicole's teacher the other day and asked at what level Nicole is reading. Her teacher said in the mid to later 3rd grade level.

We babysat for some of Nicole and Christopher's friends last Friday and Saturday. Nicole's friend Lindsey is a lot like her and they got along great. In fact, this weekend was the first time Nicole invited me to leave her room (Goodbye, Daddy). She grows up a little more every day.

02/14/2001, Wednesday - Using the Fruit of the Spirit.
(age: 6 years, 11 months, 27 days)
Last night Nicole wasn't feeling well and was being fussy and grumpy. Before dinner, Tina gave her a lecture telling her she needed to be kind, patient and have self-control. Nicole replied saying, "I can't do ALL the fruits of the Spirit!!!"

We're busy planning Nicole's birthday party. It's on Saturday and it looks like the rain will actually end before then. It's going to be a jungle theme, so I just recorded a CD full of jungle bird and animal sounds. We're planning to decorate the backyard to look like a jungle and have lots of animal games for the kids to play. So far 26 kids are invited (please pray for us!).

02/27/2001, Tuesday - Using the Fruit of the Spirit.
(age: 7 years, 0 months, 9 days)
It has been so rainy and wet that Nicole hasn't been able to play much soccer. We had one practice a couple of weeks ago, but our games were rained out. Nicole's first game was last Saturday. Of course it rained all last week and clear up to about an hour before the game. The weather turned sunny and wonderful, but the soccer field was a lake. The game was more like water polo than soccer. The girls had fun, though. Boy what a mess.

Yesterday Nicole came down with a fever. She had to miss school both yesterday and today. She seems to be doing much better today, though. One of her friends has something similar. Not too serious, just one of those things.

03/01/2001, Thursday - See the Mouse Run. Again!
(age: 7 years, 0 months, 12 days)
Yesterday Tina tried to get Nicole to tell me what happened during the day. Nicole did not want to tell me. I guess she was afraid she'd get in trouble. She has really been enjoying her mouse. I guess while holding her, Nicole decided she wanted to see what happened if she put the mouse on the floor. As you can image, the mouse immediately ran under her bed. She and Tina moved the bed out and crawled underneath and eventually got the mouse. Later, Nicole was holding it again. This time the mouse got out of her hand and again ran under the bed. The mouse was faster this time and harder to catch. It's getting smarter. We'll have to be careful.

Likes animal shows (Zoobomafoo, Kratts Creatures, Amazing Animals, etc.)
"Flounder" from the Little Mermaid. This is now her favorite movie
