Nicole's Activities:

5/26/98, Tuesday
Nicole is understanding words more all the time.  And she's trying to read words more and sound them out.  It won't be long...

5/19/98, TuesdayFractional Birthdays
Since Sunday was Nicole's quarter birthday and tomorrow is Christopher's half birthday, Tina and Nicole baked a birthday cake yesterday.  We don't normally celebrate fractional birthdays this way, but Tina thought it would be a fun activity since Nicole likes to help her bake.

5/18/98, MondayPet, Quotes, Summer Schedule
We made Nicole very happy this weekend. We got her a new pet. Since dogs and cats are bad for asthma, we got her a goldfish. She's named him Flounder. She and Mommy went garage-sailing on Saturday and found a bowl, sea shells and other fish ornaments. Nicole loves to garage-sale, and she spends her own money too. She was very distraught after getting home on Saturday. She found she still had a dime left over in her fanny pack. I guess her goal was to spend it all. (Yes, I have my credit cards locked up! ;-)

Yesterday was Nicole's quarter-birthday. No, we didn't have a big party for her or anything. But we did weigh and measure her. She now weighs 47 pounds and is 43.5 inches tall.

Nicole is going to have a very busy summer. At least until August. Tina has signed her up for summer school, piano lessons and swimming lessons. Along with our July vacation, this will keep her very busy.

As with any 4-year-old, Nicole doesn't like to take naps or go to bed at night. A few days ago Tina went in to check on her when we heard noise long after her bedtime. Her response to Mom's query about why she wasn't sleeping was "Playful things keep popping into my head".

5/12/98, TuesdayQuotes About Work
Yesterday on Sesame Street they had a segment on parents and their jobs.  They showed a woman climbing a telephone pole.  Nicole quickly remarked "My Mommy doesn't do that!"  Then they showed a man doing something.  Nicole said "Daddy doesn't do that.  He just makes money."

5/7/98, Thursday
Nicole is now in Gymnastics, and really likes it. She's also talking to me on the phone now, which is a fun diversion from work. Today she was telling me she did cart wheels, jumped on the trampoline and did chin-ups on the bars.

April School Report:  "Miss" Lisa’s Three Year-Olds
"Miss" Lisa’s class had a full and busy month! They conducted a science experiment during the Easter Unit. They froze jelly beans in Sprite. Later they put the frozen cubes in Sprite and watched as the drink turned the color of the jelly bean. They even got to taste their experiment! The children also enjoyed an early Easter egg hunt. "Miss" Lisa hid halves of Easter eggs in the room. The children received the other half, and then they had to find their matching half. In "Let’s Create" the children made Easter egg crosses out of water colors, and they also enjoyed painting at the easel. In "Let’s Think" the children counted and sorted jelly beans, and played with various Easter objects.

The Farm Unit was a lot of fun. The children especially enjoyed visiting Owen’s Farm – a real farm with animals! The children enjoyed painting a "barn" out of a cardboard box. Later they added hay, grass and animals. Then they enjoyed playing with it. The children planted their own garden in the "Pretend Center". In "Let’s Think" they matched pictures of other animals to their babies, and used a sacale to weigh beans. The children enjoyed creating their own paper plate animals, and painting their favorite farm animals at the easel.
