Paanjaang's SMK Seafield  Q & A  section

Q : Why did you create the SMK Seafield section for your web page?
A : The original reason I created this section was for the glory and to prove  my class , Tigailmu99 , was the most elite class of the year (Which is true in the end) and among the form 3. I thought that my class website committee , which was set up to make a web site for an inter- school  web site competition , was useless and dead. So I proceeded to build this site alone using Winword using my old Pentium 100.

During the construction of the site , I realized that not only I'm creating this for the glory of my class , I'm creating it for the glory of my school , SMK Seafield. Everyone has his or her ways to help the their school , so this is my way.  I want to show the world about my school which is one of it's kind through their browser window

In the end , I manage to to finished the site before the competition's deadline. My site place first in  the "bakat" category (don't ask me why it's under that category).

Nowadays , I just manage and upgrade the site when I'm free . Sometimes I upgrade my site because of the feeling revenge that is inside me.

Q : You mention "revenge" in your earlier answer . What do you mean by it?
A : When I said about the word "revenge" , I am saying about the feeling one will feel if you're defeated or outrun by someone you know. Revenge strikes me every time , for example when one of my fiends have capabilities beyond my control such as able to cope with so many things under one roof. Another example is when someone builds a WAY better side than me and they get recognition for it. This prompts me to  design or add in more things , such as this page , to my site.

You might say I'm the type of person who just don't want to lose or kiasu. But this is the spirit that propels me into doing things such as this site. Some capabilities which are beyond my control have to be left out to my "opponents"  and this is sometimes painful for me when I accept defeat.

Q : Where is the principal , PK HEM 1 , all the top officials , teachers and students? How come all building and no humans? What kind of site is this?
A :

This is an un-official site for SMK Seafield . It contains information that goes way beyond whatever that is restricted when constructing an official site. Everything here is made by students for students . I'm sure going to any official sites of other schools , or even this school will be boring and lack SO MUCH information.

Back to the question , placing the photos of the schools top official is to troublesome and you must make sure that everything you say about them is positive and non-offensive. Furthermore  , I need to hunt them down , interview them , get their speech , translate from the speech from BM to English and most important of all, I must get their permission to place their photo here. Common sense and reality will tell you that it's almost impossible to interview  the principal or any other official . Have you EVER read the principal's or any other top official's speech in the school magazine?  Same goes here . Which student in Seafield (or in Malaysia) will read their speech and want to look at their photos? Students are more interested to look at the facilities and scenery in the school.

For students who are active in co-curricular  activities , you must be wondering why I never took the trouble to place his or her achievements here or at least cover what's going on. Well, it's the same reason as placing photos of school officials here. Too troublesome , must seek permission to do so and lack off time.

All in all , all the information I exempted from my site can be found in the school magazine. But all the information that are exempted from the school magazine can be found here : Does the school magazine has pictures of Seafield traveling through the passage of time??.

Q : How can you take so many pictures of your school even though the school rule forbids you from bringing in a camera?
A :

I'm afraid that is a trade secret which cannot be revealed  .

Q : How big is your site and how many pictures are there in your library?
A :

My site now use up 7.49 Mb of space compared to only slightly more than a Mb when I first started. Most of the space is taken up by my collection of exactly 267 photos taken from various shots . Some of them are taken from the same place but at different times to illustrate change. You might not see ALL 267 photos as some of them are place online for archival purposes and may be use by future web pages.  There are 94 web pages , including this one. Most are normal web pages with no special scripting and effects.

Q : Why are almost all the pictures are about the same size and the web page look so plain?
A :

This is to ensure that the page loads up quickly when a user enters my site. If it takes too long for the page to load , he or she might give up waiting and NEVER visit the site again after that bad experience. Sure , it's easy to tell my visitors that they need to have a good connection to view my site , but in this country , high speed internet access is VERY hard to come by and most users I think are students who surf from their homes.

Almost all the pictures on this site is of the same size both to save download time and also to reduce headache during editing.  Let's say I got a very big picture that comes after a very small picture. It will make the web page inconsistent , look ugly and cause the visitor to headache. I can try to edit it so that it looks good , but now I'm the one who is having a headache .

If you're wondering why there isn't any flying pictures or special effects , well , besides the reason that it takes time to load , it also can cause incompatibility problems. Since I'm using Frontpage to edit my site , I found out that whatever Frontpage effects I create , it will never work in Netscape. Even if it does , it doesn't look good and may look weird. For example , the main page of my site. If you opened my that page in Netscape (even the latest one) , the effect won't be the same if you opened the page in IE. I also got the feeling that older browsers might not even work with the implemented special effects.

Q : One very important question , you build such a dedicated site to your school , but the school never appoint you to build its official site. Why is that?
A :

It's partly my fault in certain ways. I build this site on my own and in secret. I never told the school or anyone in charge about what I'm doing for fear that they might want the pictures I painstakingly took using my camera. I fear that they'll say that those pictures are rightfully theirs as all of them are about Seafield. Knowing the school , or any other organization , once the pictures are given to them , it'll be lost forever or worse , someone in the school might use them for his or her self. There are some pictures that are confidential and I can only own them.

Another reason is the limited amount of freedom to say whatever I like that on this site. On this site , I criticize and give my own opinion on school affairs , school actions , the school environment , a students' life in Seafield and its "keceriaan" campaign.  Browse around and you'll  see that I criticize with proper reasoning and logic without offending anyone (OK , it might offend but not to the extend where lawsuits start going my way). If I let the school know about this site , it may ask me to remove some offending information that in nature are true and  isn't offending at all. For example , the boys toilet is lock all the time , girls got their own changing room but boys aren't provided with that luxury. If this is the official site , such information will NEVER be revealed (you got to be in Seafield to know it).

Q : When did you entered and left Seafield ?
A :

I entered Seafield in the year 1997 end left it after taking my SPM in the year 2001..

Q : As for the last question , do you have any advice?
A : Enjoy whatever you want to do when you're in school , especially if you're a Seafieldien . The best time in school or the honeymoon period is in form 1 , 2 & 3 (pity form 3 will fade away in time) . Form 1 & 2 isn't an exam year so it's the time to play around in Seafield , but not to the extreme of being a criminal , just clean innocent fun. (After all , all the facilities are the fruit of OUR (form 5s 2001) effort.

This is a relationship advice from my own experience : if you're attracted or just simply in love to/with a beautiful girl in your class , don't hesitate to court her , even if its just six months before SPM. I wanted to start a relationship with a girl (please don't ask who) after SPM , but now , in January 2002 , far away from home in Nilai , I still haven't got a chance to meet her .....  How did it end like that ? I started courting around June , but due to the SPM , we decided to study first then start the relationship. So , boys and girls , do take my advice . And to think that I'm a nerd , think again... I'm also human.
