The Web Philippines, a publication of WS Computer Publishing Corporation, handed first Webby Awards on December 09, 1998 at Hard Rack Café, Makati City.

The Philippine Webby Awards, patterned after the American Webbies in 1997 by The Web Magazine, is an award-giving body which honored the best Filipino-created websites for the year in 18 categories from more than 700 local websites.

The "Website of the Year", a special award given by the Philippine Long Distance Company, to PhilMusic, attributed to Jim Ayson.

Magoo's, the online ordering and delivery of Magoo's Pizza, received the Intel's special award as E-zine Website of the Year.

The Webby Awards, determined by a panel of judges according to relevance of content and overall look, audited by Santos, Tardecilla, Verdolaga and Co., in their respective categories are:

The Peoples' Choice, of similar categories from Arts to Humor/Weird, were also recognized by the award giving body, the only one of its kind in the Philippines, and may well be even in the whole of Asia.
