Words have power. They create ripples in reality, like the time six months ago when, during our semi-regular Runequest campaign, Gav said "These rules would work really well for Middle-Earth, better than MERP", or something to that effect. That though snagged in my febrile little brain, and this is the result; an attempt at hammering out a Middle-Earth specific set of rules from the Chaosium corpus.
This is the second draft. Some things got ironed out druing the proofing of the first draft, but we are far from completion. Hopefully, sometime between now and the mid-year break, we'll get some play testing in; most of us are students, so it may be a vain hope. That said, anyone out there who wants to take this mess of ours and play with is welcome, as are any suggestions, corrections, or criticisms.
A few apologies before we move on. First, to Professor Tolkien, for any misuse of his creation. To Greg Stafford, Steve Perrin, Sandy Peterson, and the holders of the copyrights of the various Chaosium & Avalon Hill games I've plundered here; this is not meant to be an exercise in breach of copyright, and really is a complement to the systems you created/published. To Iron Crown Enterprises, the publishers of the MERP franchise; in a couple of places I have blatantly ripped off some of their stuff And lastly, to Peter Jackson. As much as I love his adaptation of the Lord of the Rings (and Meet The Feebles!), I have had to make a choice, and treat his vision as, at best, a tertiary source.
