Characters have a pool of points that their player's can use to increase any skills they see fit to, and, with their GMs permission, purchase magic. To figure out the size of this pool, first add together the character's STR, CON, DEX, SIZ, INT, POW, & CHA. Once you have this number, multiply it by the Factor given in the age tables below.

This provides you with a pool of skill points. The number of points will vary widely, depending on stats and the age of the character. An average Rohir, with 13 in all seven stats and aged 28, will have 273 Skill Points (13x7=91, 91x3=273). An average Noldo, with an age of 5500, will have 1110 Skill Points. GMs concerned with play balance, real or percieved, may want to keep this in mind.
No limits are being placed on how many points can be placed into skills during character creation, but if a GM wanted to institute such, we would suggest 75 as a useful limit.
Aging is an unfortunate fact of life for all the Peoples of Middle-Earth, sav only the Elves and Orcs. In game terms, aging manifests as a gradual degeneration of statistics. Starting at forty, Common Men will begin to suffer the effects of aging. For Hobbits this begins at seventy, one hundred for Edain, two hundred for Dwarves. Roll once per year for Men, and once every two years for Hobbits, and Edain. Dwarven characters are rolled for once every three years.
