Forbidden Paths - Gameplay turn info page

Turn Timing
Each Forbidden Paths turn has a one-week turnaround time. Players need to post for the current turn by 6am MST each Friday morning. I will then post the turn results and new scenario on or before Monday morning. Please let me know in advance if you will be late or unable to post for any given turn, and we will work something out.

Turn Instructions
The format for turn instructions may be modified throughout our first while of gameplay. I will update all players to any new changes via e-mail. Currently, the instrustions are as follows.

Editorial Notes: Any editorial (GM) notes will be enclosed in brackets [ ]. This information is for players—characters are not aware of it. Out-of-text information for characters will be placed in parentheses ( ) in a separate paragraph—the characters specified within will know this information. Players will always know more than their respective characters, so please try to restrict character action and response to things that the characters know.

Player Action: Players need to respond to each turn with new character actions, thoughts, speech, etc. Your reply should be e-mailed and include the following (note: you may not need to include each item every time).

Goals. Goals are simply statements of what your character wants to accomplish during the given turn. Goals should be labeled “Goals,” and numbered 1, 2, 3, etc. (rocket science, eh?). For example, if Telchar were at a stable with other adventurers and being chased by a band of goblins while trying to steal some horses, Telchar’s goals might be the following. Goals: 1) Steal Horses. 2) Escape from goblins with other adventurers all alive. Everything you specify afterward should be in an attempt to accomplish your goal(s).

Actions. Specifically, what you want your character to do. Actions should be enclosed in brackets [ ]. This may include a string of commands. For example: [Telchar attacks the ugliest goblin with his broadsword. If he kills the goblin, he will move to attack the short, pudgy one. If he doesn’t kill the goblin, he will run for the horses and try to escape]. Note that these are rudimentary examples, and I expect a bit more from actual players.

Suggestions. Your character can suggest that another character near you do (or refrain from doing) certain things. Label all suggestions as “suggestions” (surprise, surprise). If I as the GM feel that the other character would accept the suggestion and act on it, I will write the corresponding actions into the story.

Speech. All speech should be enclosed in quotation marks “” and may be directed at a specific character or at no one in particular. Please note that I will not tolerate profanity. Thank you.

Notes to the GM. If you want the GM (me) to know something about what your character is thinking, or have questions aimed at me personally, etc., please put this information inside the greater-than less-than symbols "< >".

Each turn I will type out the results of the previous turn, and present the characters with new problems/situations. For some characters, the decisions might be minimal (what to drink, water or wine), and for others, very important indeed (do I try to sneak past the heavily armed guards in broad daylight or not?). Choose wisely, and enjoy!
